Help me. I'm still depressed |
|
You know, I look around and I read the threads in different forums. Everybody seems to have moved on and looking ahead, working on the future. My question is, how the hell do you guys do it? It seems that I'm the only one still wallowing in my sorrow, still sick to death about the election results. Why can't I get over this? I want so bad to be happy again. Can someone please give me advise on how I can move forward? I'm sick of being depressed. I think I really need to see a shrink. Can someone please give me some hope or encouraging words or tell me joke I don't care.

1. You can probably find folks who'll pray for you, or send vibes |
|
your way in the Lounge. Lots of friendly and sympathetic people there, and a place your post probably belongs.

13. I don't know. I think this is probably a good topic for |
|
"general discussion." It's probably a widespread issue and I'd like to know what democrats are doing about it.

get counseling if need be, and we are here to share. Myself, I am already working on local candidates for 2006, and plans to take back 9th district Congress. Work with the local party or independently. I prefer Independence myself, but work with the party some. That may change when the leadership changes. Or volunteer at something else. My prayers are with you.;-) we are all in this together!!!

3. If this has been going on a while... |

Perhaps it is time to talk to a professional? No harm, no foul in that, at all.
There is nothing dishonorable about your body getting sick below the bridge of your nose. Why should you feel ashamed about any infirmity that takes place above the bridge of your nose?
Answer: You shouldn't.

4. If you feel the need to talk to someone do it! |

I'm coping by channeling my energy into trying to make a difference in the 2006 midterms, contributing what I can to the recount/investigative efforts, writing letters to editors and maintaining a website of my shameless liberal venting.
I attended my county's DEC meeting last night and if that's not depressing I don't know what is. I learned why we have one mayor, one school board member and a tax collector who are democrats and that's it. Every other politician who represents me in local, county, state and national government is a republican.
The DEC here is in shambles. We have over 200 precincts and should have two precinct captains for each. We have 30 total and a committee chair who is actively discouraging new membership. Fortunately it looks like she is going to get her butt booted in the committee elections in a couple of weeks. It's no wonder that while we have only 44% registered republicans, the republican candidates handily win their races by a 65/35 margin of victory.
I am begging and pleading with everyone who is remotely organized. Get on your county or district committee and start cracking heads! I got the impression our state party committee isn't much better than our county one. We need organized and energetic people to get out there and mobilize. Now!
So there you have it. My personal response to the depression is to get pissed and get busy.

I haven't 'moved on' ~ I won't 'get over' it ~ there is NOTHING that will make me feel better about all of this.
Sometimes the Bad Guys win.
I keep going from sad  to mad :nuke: and back again,,,,
I can only offer validation.

I've been feverishly watching the developments since the election, and I did the same thing for awhile during 2000. I remember when I first saw Bush talking on TV way back before 2000, and I was terrified right away. So innocent-looking, but he also exuded something deeply dangerous...that was my fear, and it hasn't changed. I can barely concentrate on work these days. I can only look for more hints that there's still hope. I don't think the results will be overturned, but there are two things I don't see as impossible:
1) eventually, when lots of motivated people have finally completed their audits and investigations, something will come out that makes Bush look SO bad that he'll be impeached. 2) If not impeached, at least made to look really bad.
3) The more bleak scenario is that the whole election scandal will blow over like a passing stink and be forgotten...but perhaps Bush will become so overwhelmingly unpopular in the next 4 years that people will simply not be able to bear it anymore, and some sort of change will be inevitable. OR...the whole country will be impatiently waiting to kick him out, while kicking themselves at the same time for letting him in in the first place (it's everybody's fault that we let the Repugs get away with murder)...
I admit I was hoping the last scenario would already have taken place (I figured nobody would let him anywhere NEAR the oval office in 2004), but unfortunately people are too blind, slow, and uneducated to see past the smokescreen. But...the tides were already turning against Bush in the last while...I suspect his popularity will continue to plummet, and by 2008 we'll all regret these years.
I pin my hopes on these dreams...especially scenarios 1 and 2!
Just keep hoping man - and you know what? When it gets too much, STOP thinking about it so much, and get out a KEEP YOURSELF BUSY. That's the trick to keeping out of depression. Do things you enjoy, don't lounge around and don't spend TOO much time on the web. There's only so much you can control. Concentrate instead on things YOU can control, and do them well - and have fun.
That's what I try to do.
Cheers mate

14. I'll come back but can understand because I'm also am in a "low" |
|
I couldn't bring myself to attend my local Democrats' monthly meeting last week. A friend was concerned and called me about it. Truth is that I put so much effort and volunteer time into this Presidential election that this "depression" is a normal response.
Right now just gathering my strength and making note of what I can accomplish and letting go of the rest. It is not automatic and takes a little time.
I want to believe that the vast majority of us "disappointed" by this election will re-group in the future - but loss is a process that is individually suffered. We all tend recover at our own speed.

change your screen name during the amnesty. That may just at least symbolically lighten your load anyway.
You are not alone in your dispair. The blatant unraveling of all this once great country has stood for has been devastating for many of us to behold.
Maybe cut down on the news a bit and focus on simple things that you can do to create more levity. Help out others when you can.
I try to make eye contact with strangers and inspire at least 10 smiles when I'm out, no matter how grim things get.
It's silly but it really does make me feel better. Admittedly, some days it's tougher to do so than others.

As one goes through life, one encounters many trials and tribulations. Loss of loved ones, friends, and other important individuals will take away a part of us. Remember, though, that the ones who live on must continue. It is a waste of life and ability if one should be mired in sadness. We have the duty to carry on to our missing companions. The world is still here, and we are as well. No matter what is thrown at you, your life is your own. This election was stolen, either through shoddy ideals or through outright theft of the vote. Remember that we have yet to enter the darkness of Bush Wars, Volume II. Our fight is still fresh. We make our world, and must not forget this.
When one is alone in the deep of winter, in a bitter cold and a new moon, one may still look up and see the stars and realize that the world still has light. There is no true darkness anywhere. And as with the seasons, the days will lengthen, the world will thaw, and life will return once more.

9. I see nothing positive going on |
|
with my country, but I have no choice except to proclaim displeasure and spread information about the repubs and hope to sway people into thinking (as well as plan a backdoor option). I suggest joining different organizations aimed at protecting the constitution, civil rights, or some anti-war group such as veterans for peace.

10. My 2 cents....If you're NOT feeling anxious and some form of |
|
depression, you are not in touch with what is going on. When you live in a country that you love and see it slipping away to a group of criminals, crooks, liars and thieves, not to mention murderers.... it's DEPRESSING! What you are feeling is a perfectly normal response to depressing events happening all around you. I too feel the same way. I'm trying to figure out how to channel my fear, anxiety, anger and depression into something more positive.
I think that's why most of us are here. If we felt everything was hunky-dory we never would have searched out and found DU.
I pray for guidance, where am I most effective? Where can I make any small difference? I still don't feel I have my answer but I trust the process. I'm not religious but I am very spiritual and I do believe that when help is sought, it is given.
I'm not fighting my feelings anymore. I accept them, feel them, own them because they are perfectly normal. There is no point in trying to stuff them away somewhere.
If you feel therapy can help you find a constructive road to change that you are looking for, go for it. Just be careful if anyone tries to make you feel that there is something wrong with you for feeling the way you do.
Hang in there kid, we're all in the same boat.

11. acceptance is the first step to peace |
|
let these criminals have all they want. Now they have even more power, let them.
There's nothing you can do, the seeds of their destruction are already in them. Like Kerry said, one day our votes WILL be counted.
You'll be stronger if you accept the truth. After a while, you'll be ready to start hoping again. And after that, you'll have even more energy to fight evil again.
