CNN/Miles O'Brien: "This Is One Of The Ugliest Buildings Ever Created."
Wes Clark: "Actually, it's not..."

Miles O'Brien: "Really..."

That's Miles O'Brien's architectural genius talking, in reference to the Clinton Presidential Library.

You know what, shut the F up Miles. :grr: No one cares what you think. Some real, "fair and balanced" news coverage there. :eyes:

2. They were absolutely terrible on "Daybreak" -
referred to it as a "double wide", only read emails from people who hated it.

Miles O'Brien should come to Seattle and check out the EMP and the new library, if he wants to see ugly.

10. I don't care for it, but it's not ugly
It does have a certain grace in its dynamic use of space and interval. Then again, one end looks like an interstate bypass to nowhere. But I'll reserve judgement until such time as I have an actual degree in architecture. (Never.)

13. it is supposed to represent the Bridge to the 21st Century
Clinton ran on that for his last term.(i think)..and also the openness of the government..as per Hilary on Larry King last night...

11. Any concept of "fair and balanced" that they thought they still
were observing is now gone, it's free reign now that the repukes control everything. They don't have to be fair and balanced for shit.
Should be bland and biased.

14. Yeah, and even after the segment with Clark, he had to keep at it
and he said it was ugly even before the Clark segment, too.

What a total jackass. I never watch CNN and only tuned in to see Clark.
My first reaction...is Miles O'Brien on DRUGS????????????

16. Miles O'Brien is a sneering nazi thug, and always has been
Edited on Thu Nov-18-04 03:10 PM by PurityOfEssence
The Reagan years brought forth and consolidatated the snotty macho dismissal of all that was "different"; weakness was proof of incompetence, and joining the club of society was to be based upon crushing and deriding all who questioned the groupthink.

He's a prick, and of the worst kind, because he won't admit his bias.

Look into his eyes, look at his countenance, and let his words wash over you: he is Sean Hannity. He is Sean Hannity without the courage to be a smarmy apparatchik of the privileged.

Sean Hannity lite; can there be a greater dismissal of an individual?

22. Actually, I kind of agree
I saw a picture of it from the end, and my first thought was, "It's an oversized single wide." The proportions and the boxiness, at least from that particular angle, were not flattering.

23. It's not the kind of thing to say on-air at its dedication IMO
Miles van de Rohe didn't need to toss in an editorial comment like that, but what do I know.

25. You must have a sense of humor for this...
I agree with you, AlabamaYankee. It's not the most aethestically pleasing building. Oh well. No big deal, I say.

Anyway, your comment reminded me of a pic I saw on one those sites we cannot name. It's actually pretty humorous.

Believe it or not, it's the new Ontario College of Art and Design in Toronto.

Apparently the Clinton Library is a nod to the existing bridge in the vicinity. I'm not really a fan of cantilevering and the whole postmodern bag of tricks, but I guess that does kind of make sense, in the "bridge to the 21st Century" context. And that twilight photo posted by Carson, where it's glowing -- like blocks of light suspended in air. Not bad.

I thought it might be a bit more graceful, reflecting WJC himself a bit more accurately -- but if its main function is to house a group that's carrying on Clinton's legacy, that's the main thing for me.
