Al Gore, Nixon in reverse? |
|
Nixon ran in 1960 on the Rockefeller Republican card and barely lost, then in '68 his true colors came out.
Here's to Al Gore running as a populist!

People need to write him and tell him he needs to get with the diet and exercise. We need him alive and healthy.

Therefore, most Americans will scorn him and hold him in contempt.
For his own good, natch.
Maybe we deserve slim, trim, smokin' Bush after all.

13. It's just sorta remarkable. |

I remember in the 2000 primaries, someone writing that Gore looked liked the ex-athlete when debating jowly Bill Bradley. Now, he looks like, well, members of my family. Politicians usually don't change that quickly.

6. Clinton's Remarks today |
|
"Now this library, of course, is primarily about my presidency. I want to say a special word of thanks to Al Gore and to Tipper for the indispensable contribution that they made. And I told Al today that this library won an international environmental award, even though it's got a lot of glass. Because of solar panels and a lot of other improvements, we cut the energy usage here by 34 percent. So Al, thanks for the inspiration, and I'm still trying to measure up to the challenge you set for me so long ago."

7. If No One Else of His Stature Does |

I hope he runs. I prefer him over anyone with the possible exception of Howard Dean. The core of the party will rally around Al, regardless of what the elite does. I certainly will -- I love that man. He's just got to get better at PR.

14. He turned into a populist at the convention |
|
Which I still think was a mistake. It was strange to hear someone who was part of the team in power for eight years suddenly rail against those in power. It could work in 2008 though, I suppose.

19. i would volunteer for his campaign |
|
gore understands more about america than anyone of my generation. he played the good, loyal patriotic leader in december 2000 and has watched the nation turn to shit. he knows it and is by far the best democrat out there to rectify 8 years of bushevik poisoning.
any bid by him to enter the 2004 primaries was met by negativity by the middle of the road democratic leaders and money bags because they did not like at all the al gore they saw on the campaign trial in the last 30 days of the 2000 election cycle. his fire brand populism captured the popular vote when he was down 10 points 4 weeks earlier.
so the dlc types stifled gore in 2003 and who did they get instead? howard dean.
gore's subsequent speeches in 2002-2004 have been the most articulate, most pointed attacks on bush by a democrat bar none. he articulated the narrative the dems could have used to bring bush down, but in large part his ideas were ignored by kerry.
gore gave a televised speech in this fall sponsored by move-on.org that was devestating towards bush, and that gore would beat any repuke standing before him in 2008.
i like al gore, alot, and alot better than any democratic candidate i have seen from the party in a long, long time.
