Good pro-choice talking point/bumper sticker

I thought of it today. Of course, I might not be the first. It is:

"THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS BANNING ABORTION."

The basis of this is that making abortion illegal will not stop it happening, nothing of the sort. It will simply drive it underground, into the back streets, or maybe into Mexico and Canada.

It will mean unsafe procedures and horrible deaths.

It will mean criminals profiting.

It will mean the destruction of lives and hopes.

And, perhaps most meaningfully, it will mean NOTHING for the rich who can still afford the clean, discreet, qualified doctors.


What do you think? The next time a freeper or a fundie says "ban abortion", say "it cannot be done".

Abortions will go back to where they were 35 years ago - rich people can pay for access and others use back alley abortionists or coat hangers. I understand GWB was able to arrange one for a certain 'friend' before 1972.
I've been saying it should be framed 'pro-choice or no-choice'. Were I a woman I'd want a choice.

8. Whether it is banned or not

it will not stay banned if the people do not want it banned. And that means winning the debate. I have a rationale that backs this slogan and others like it based on winning hearts and minds.

next time my fundie/wingnut brother brings up politics...which he's been smart enough not to do the last couple of times our paths have crossed. Yeah. That's why this argument hasn't been used.

11. In that case, hammer home the class element of it.

The fact that it was and would be very easy for the rich to get away with abortion, and that is not (whatever conspiracy theories may be floating around) the case with abortion.

For the rich, abortion will always be quick, safe and discreet. Always.

13. The buzz words: Ban SAFE abortions

The bumper sticker would have a picture of a coat hanger, with the words "ban safe abortion" over the top, then a red circle/slash over the top of the prior-mentioned stuff.

Yes, and the next time a freeper says "ban abortion," say, you mean "ban SAFE abortion".

14. In the past, my argument has also been,

that if the govt. can tell you that you can't have an abortion, then you are only a word away from them being able to tell you when you must have an abortion.
