Canadians starting to organize Bush visit protests
Media coverage this week suggested that the state visit was proposed for the end of November (in Ottawa, one of the coldest national capitals in the world!), in hopes that the weather might discourage a lot of people from turning out to protest.

I think they forgot to take into account the fact that:

1) most of Canada's favourite sports are played on frozen water (sometimes this includes football, when it's the Grey Cup game in a outdoor stadium in November -- so standing in the snow, yelling and waving a bunch of signs isn't so farfetched to us)

2) Canadians are frequently seen at the Dairy Queen during the winter months -- complaining about "brain freeze" but eating ice cream nonetheless

3) we have the clothes for it (even people who moved to the West Coast a decade ago have parkas stashed in their closets "just in case")

4) there's no hockey, and the CBC has run out of good movies to show

Didn't think of that, did you, Karl Rove?

1. Bring out the rotten eggs!
Okay, they don't have to be rotten, but they have to be raw!

3. Hope for a nice sunny day
And clear skys, so that camera crews can get a close-up of all the protest. It should look good on the CBC news programs.

4. I want to come over from the US to join my Canadian Brethren
Tuesday is such a rotten day of the week, trying to figure out how I can use my remaining vacation days to do this. My mom lives just over the 1000 Islands bridge so we wouldn't have to stay anywhere in Canada. Leave first thing in the morning and arrive in Ottawa in plenty of time. My daughter is going to school in Northern New York so she can join me. I'm getting pretty psyched just thinking about it.

12. His "installation" will be flawless, and protest-free
Edited on Fri Nov-19-04 06:40 AM by SoCalDem
The puppy-press will see to it that there is no hint of dissent.. There will be an anti-fly-over, so there will be no overhead shots of the protestors.

There will be FOUR THOUSAND combat troops and tens of thousands of cops.

Supporters will be bused in (as always), and the manufactured consent and houpla will be in mass evidence..

The press will report that a "few hundred" "bush-haters" or "stolen-election-sorelosers" showed up, but were humiliated into leaving.

7. OK, Now I am reallllly psyched, it's only 92 miles from my Mom's
and it's on a Tuesday so my daughter doesn't have any classes that day. I had better go out and buy us some new longjohns cause we're probably gonna need 'em. Now I just have to arrange for time off from work, which shouldn't be a problem. It's just like the 60s, step out in the hall, you Nazi Cow!!!

9. don't forget the wool socks!
Unless you have some of those super-insulated boots like Sorels, standing around on a cold day can really freeze your toes. But with the right socks, even ordinary boots are fine ... I remember standing outside my school in my running shoes during a fire drill, in a snowdrift, and being very glad that I was wearing heavy wool socks. It had happened the previous year when I didn't have those socks, and I nearly got frostbite then! A spare pair of socks can fit into your pocket just in case, and can also be worn as emergency mittens.
