Have a GOP House Rep? Report here how they voted on DeLay rule
I'd like to compile as fully as possible how GOP caucus members voted on the rule change for Tom DeLay. I would love it if those of you who live in GOPers' districts could call their office and see if they'll let you know.

Contact info including office phone numbers is at http://www.house.gov

I live in Jo Ann Emerson's district, and I'm about to make the call.

I'll also go ahead and pull together what I can from online articles and blogs. Thanks for any help!

1. And there WAS a vote...
Many of them are claiming it never even came to a vote becuse there is no record of it. Well of COURSE there was a vote, but it was a voice vote....so they were able to slime their way around having their vote recorded. So don't let them tell you otherwise. Get an answer..

These people are corrupt and unethical at best...they need to be held accountable for all their votes, especially when it comes to lowering the standards for their leaders.

2. My co worker called her reps office yesterday
Edited on Fri Nov-19-04 09:32 AM by KurtNYC
They said first only that it was a "voice vote" (accountability ??). They went on to give every indication that she had voted FOR the rule change. They then asked if my co-worker had been "reading MoveOn.org" and said that Delay was under attack by partisans. She is not here today and I'm not sure who her rep is since it she doesn't live in my district.

On edit: Pretty sure it was Sue Kelly - District 19 NY

3. Well....
Just made the call to Emerson's office. The person who answered tried to tell me there was not a vote, and when I informed I know there was in fact a voice vote she indicated what went on was private and she would not have the info. She told me that such information was not accessible, and I asked her why she couldn't simply ask Emerson. She again said it was private info. Lot of good that will do. I gave her my address and informed her that as a constituent I was not satisfied with her answer.

25. "Private info"? So whose govt is it? Who do they 'represent'?
This is so wrong. And a phone survey is a great idea.

24. You can move tom Davis (VA) out of the "Huh" group ...
but I'm not sure which group he belongs in now. The first staffer I spoke with told me that it was a private vote. I replied, "So, before I write my letter to the Washington Post, let me be sure I have my facts correct. My elected representative, the chairman of the House Committee on Government Reform, is telling me that it is none of my business how he voted on a matter relating to ethics in government?" I was promptly switched to another staffer who took my name, address, and phone number, and promised to get that information to me as soon as she had it.

I'm shocked. He's a complete and willing tool, or so I thought.

5. My Congresscritter: Ron Lewis (R-KY-2nd)
His office had no information available, claiming that a 'voice vote' was taken regarding the rule change, so there's no record of individual votes. I passed along to his toady that I expect representatives to make this information available to the public - not hide behind a smokescreen of anonymity. He said that Lewis would receive my message.

spoke out on the floor against it. Said there was an article in the AZRepublic yesterday about it. I'll dig around and see if I can find the article. His vote surprised me.

On edit - the AZRep article:

Arizona's Rep. J.D. Hayworth was among the 30 to 50 GOP lawmakers who opposed the change. Other Republicans attending the closed-door session said Hayworth was among those who stood up and spoke out against it.

I may have to call my representative and tell him that, for once, he actually represented me!

13. Yea, for a reason. To avoid accountability.
And now is the time we bug them for answers and make them own up to it. Just because it was in private session doesn't mean they're all immune from public scrutiny. We just have to try a little harder.

17. Just called Candace Miller's (MI) office
They were very friendly and said they would get back with me with an answer after calling the DC office. It will be interesting to see what they say. I very much doubt that she voted against the rule change. I think she would have been wise to avoid voting on it because she was admonished along with Delay for trying to strong arm Nick Smith into voting for the Medicare bill.

18. Here's the answer if they try the "Private" crap
Tell them that refusal to give an answer to how they voted will be taken as an affirmative and will =be spread as such..

Demand an answer and explain that any non-answers automatically mean they voted yes and their nakme is being entered onto a list to be spread far and wide as supporting criminal activity by House Republican Leadership.

20. Daily DeLay still needs a lot of help
FL, GA, OH, NC, PA, MI still have a lot of Reps to contact.

Couldn't hurt to call the refusers and letter-writers again either.

We can use this against them in '06 -- particularly if DeLay goes down in flames in the legal system. Notice that a lot of the "Shays' handful" folks are from blue or purple states. They know what's up.
