DU mentioned in lttr 2 editor
Is it unfair to wonder how many tombstones this freep racked up?

<http://www.starnewspapers.com/star/spedit/let/181-ltr1.htm>

<snip> "...How about this for irony: A poll on DemocraticUnderground.com asks, "Which is more depressing, 9/11/01 or 11/3/04?" As of Nov. 8, the results are: 9/11 (27 percent), 11/3 (73 percent. I guess the perception is fairly accurate — for Democrats, that is." <snip>

It seems the poll he writes about is archived, but the poll was most certainly a meager sampling. And I have no idea what DUers actually wrote in response. This, however, did not keep him from making sweeping statements.

Most of the letter makes excuses for the man currently thought to be the president. And as usual, he ignores half of the populace in "red" states.

Since DU is mentioned I suppose it's fair for DUers to respond. Listing reasons exactly why you felt it was more depressing would be a good idea for you who partook in the poll. I'm going to assume you actually had some real reasons for saying something like that, and that it was not mere glibness.

Also, be aware when responding to posts such as " Are you fed up with troops?" that you may actually be getting set up by freeps. I would put aside glibness on such posts.

On the upside--this will bring more to DU who can make their own decisions on the information found here.

4. I didn't take the poll because there was no
degree of comparison IMHO. I also felt it to be bait. Both tragedies are intensely emotional but in different ways. One cannot say one affected you more than the other.

5. Bait, yes.
As DU gains some modicum of notice, I think we'll be seeing more of that.

I think a careful approach is wisest when it comes to flip posts on serious matters.

One could argue that Bush in the WH means more attacks for America, but responding to 2 dates in a poll will never reveal that belief.

6. Same here, Cleita. Many times I feel like Frank Luntz is polling us
for opposition research.

7. I recall that poll.
It wasn't too long after the election and emotions were high. I did not take it because it really felt as if there were no comparison to me. They are two entirely separate feelings of loss and sorrow.

I agree that people do need to always assume that someone else is watching what we do and say. It's like that everyplace where people gather in mass. We need to make individual decisions as to what message we really intend to be getting across.

I also feel if you have a strong opinion about an issue and can articulately express it you should, no matter how controversial the topic.
