Linda Ronstadt compares * to hitler USAToday

Don't get her started on the recent presidential election. "People don't realize that by voting Republican, they voted against themselves," she says. Of Iraq (news - web sites) in particular, she adds, "I worry that some people are entertained by the idea of this war. They don't know anything about the Iraqis, but they're angry and frustrated in their own lives. It's like Germany, before Hitler took over. The economy was bad and people felt kicked around. They looked for a scapegoat. Now we've got a new bunch of Hitlers."

More temperate remarks got Ronstadt into hot water in June, when while performing at the Aladdin Casino and Resort in Las Vegas, she dedicated an encore of Desperado to Michael Moore, controversial director of the anti-Bush documentary Fahrenheit 9/11. Ronstadt had cited Moore at many previous concerts without any problems, she says, and she learned of unrest at the Aladdin after hearing TV reports that concertgoers had thrown drinks and ripped down posters.

"No one threw drinks or anything in the concert hall," Ronstadt says. "I don't know what people did in the lobby, but if they behaved like naughty schoolboys, that's not my fault. I doubt it was the first time they had drunk people in Vegas, you know?"

1. Good for you, Linda.
One thing I always wonder about, though.

Why is Michael Moore always described as controversial? Why isn't that description applied to Falwell, Robertson, Dobson?

Why don't they call Cheney controversial, or Rove?

4. Go, Linda, Go !
I've always been an admirer of Linda's voice. The versatility. The range. Whether it's rock & roll, opera, pop, jazz, Broadway classics, ballads, Linda sure can sing. And well too.

Although I've never been *into* celebrity worship crapola, I still say, "Give em hell, Linda! Stand your ground!"

6. she's right on the money.
Bush is the closest thing to hitler that we seen in this country and the 69,000,000 nationalistic idiots who voted for him are very much like those who put hitler in power in 1933. We are quickly moving in the same direction that Germany did during the 30's. The similarities are undeniable.

7. About damn time
Maybe our media will give up prostitution ring in the White House and start providing journalism. It will take time, but it will happen.

11. Media providing journalism???
Why do you think the media will start to provide journalism? They are so afraid and intimidated by this administration - I don't see how they are motivated to behave differently than the past.

That is the exception to the norm. Seems to be all about bread and circuses now.
We can't expect much better these days. Sadly. :hi: and welcome to DU.

8. Go LInda,
Last night on the NBC TV series American Dreams, a young Linda Ronstadt was trying to get on American Bandstand.
I said to my wife, you havn't heard anything out of her lately, then I remembered the Aladdin incident in Vegas, Now she is in the news again.
We need more like her who will speek up an drive the people.

9. To those who whined about the stars after the election,
about how they made us look bad and needed to shut their pie holes and go home. This is why. We can't get coverage of voting issues, but Linda can still get interviews and face time. I wish that a few more would step up.

10. I got to see Linda (and Clinton!) at a Kerry rally a while back!
Linda was great. She played the piano and sang two songs for the crowd, one in Spanish and one in English. She has an amazing voice.

She obviously cares very much about the direction this country is going...for that I say, Go Linda!!
