2. I heard
That some fancy dinner was cancelled because the secret service wanted everyone to go through metal detectors and most of them didn't think they needed to. Didn't hear it as a boycott, just they couldn't agree, so it was cancelled. Did they have the dinner anyway??

3. That's exactly what I had heard.
I didn't realize it was a boycott until Rick Sanchez said it. I thought it was a decision made by the Chilean government -- not an organized boycott by 200 guest.

4. It must have been an INTERESTING meeting indeed!
Paul Martin, the Prime Minister, in a press conference, said the US is a major player in these meetings BUT China was in EVERY discussion. Put that together with this photo:

and one can surmise bush was not much of a prize there, lol.

rightly thought it would be an insult to their guests (not to mention that this happening at La Moneda Palace, where the President of Chile LIVES) to make them go through that. As you know all too well, Pacific Rim capitalist heads of state are known the world over for being given to suicide bombings at black-tie events.:eyes:

8. I know what they're thinking --
(1) The CIA set up many of their dictatorships; (2) The CIA destablized socialist-leaning governments that may have had a chance to resolve poverty issues; and the USA was certainly no friend of Argentina by making it an example of free market economics.

But I will tell you that this is a monumental change in latin America politics than when I lived there.
