It's Not Just Roe
Roe may very well be overturned, but it's hardly the only thing being endangered by a bush made SCOTUS. What else could go the way of the Dodo? The Environment; from protection of public lands to endangered species, affirmative action, the separation between church and state, rights of criminal defendants and immigrants- just to name a few. And the dems can't do much to stop the remaking of the court. They can block some judges, but by the 3rd or fourth nomination, they'll be worn down, or the rethugs will go "nuclear". When this happens, I'm NOT going to blame the dems. The Judiciary Committee will be composed with a 3 or 4 vote rethug majority. They also have continuing and complete control of the agenda. Holding on to Arlen, with his balls in a vice, was a smart move. Looks pretty bleak. When nominations are made, we need to find out as much as possible about the nominees, and we need to fight strategically. I remember opposing Souter-simply because he was a bush sr. nomination. Not that jr. will appoint anyone that decent, but we need to keep out the worst. I have a teeny bit of hope that we may be able to do that.
