Tweety: "You don't have to destroy your champion" (JK)

He and Kathleen plunked $4.5 mil to become G.E.RUSSERT's neighbors.

WATER VIEWS What with Natalie Jacobson, Pat O'Brien, Bob Arnott, Tim Russert, and The New York Times's COO Janet Robinson already on the island, Nantucket's become quite the in spot for media types. The newest members of the club are Chris Matthews and his TV anchor wife, Kathleen, who just bought a place for $4.35 million. The couple are introduced to the neighbors in the latest issue of the Nantucket Times -- they're on the cover of Bruce Percelay's mag -- and the "Hardball" host even says a few interesting things. About Teresa Heinz Kerry, he remarks, "She's a very beautiful woman, very attractive in a lot of ways and very charming. But I'm a sixties guy. I would have a totally different attitude towards her than a guy living in Ohio." As for John Kerry, Matthews, who was a top aide to Tip O'Neill back in the day, predicts the state's junior senator will try again in 2008. "I think he runs again because of the narrowness of the options if the Democrats don't turn on him the way they did on Al (Gore). I don't think they're going to do that. Nobody turned on Stevenson. Nobody turned on Humphrey. Republicans never turned on Goldwater. You don't have to destroy your champion."

3. The DNC asked Al not to run again....
in 2004. They felt that since he didn't carry his home-state that it would be a lost cause. The people still wanted him to run again. I personally believe that Al Gore should run again 2008!

1. "You don't have to destroy your champion." is demonstrably false
on DU. It seems that some of us DO have to destroy our champions, all in the name of "fighting back"

6. If our being angry at Kerry's quick concession
after we turned ourselves inside out for him destroys him, then we had the wrong candidate from the get go.

And the Dems who turned on Gore were the DLC and Lieberman.
While I will never vote for Nader, I have to appoligize for my comments about the parties being essentially the same.

Kucinich, Dean, and Edwards need to run as Greens next time. This party is probably over. Certainly, I have a hard time imagining them getting mor e money out of me.

8. I really doubt that all the anger is about the concession
seeing as how a lot of it started about a year BEFORE the election

I have to appoligize for my comments about the parties being essentially the same.

YOu see? It began long before ELection Day.

This party is probably over.

And there ya go!

12. Sorry
I should have proof read that better.
What I meant to say, was that I was sorry for jumping on *nader* for his comments about the party being like the pugs.

And I stand by my comments about the Party. If my comments kill the Party, then it is too broken to mend in the first place.

Progressives have been letting the Pug-lite Dems short shrift us far too long. We need a party of our own. Let your Joe-mentum carry you, I cannot spend any more of my fixed income supporting it.

But hey, I will most likely be in Vancouver this time next year anyway.
Remember the picture of Freud getting off the boat in England? I am disabled, and I must leave early, because I cannot run.

Thanks DLC for your tepid defense of American democracy. Stand with your head bent in shame, as you watch the Ukraine today.

14. Your post would be improved by eliminating the personal aspersions
which I don't deserve seeing as I work for a charity that fights for the disabled where I am making way below market wages.

Show me a personal aspersion I cast on you in the preceeding post, and I will either defend it, or withdraw it.

1) I don't know why you credit me with "Joe-mentum"

2) I have no idea what you mean by MY "tepid defense", and I've never supported the DLC, not even when they were winning

3) You have no idea what my position on Ukraine is.

19. Un Problem de Anglais
is the fact that the 2nd person pronoun lacks a discernable second person plural. (Though the regional variant 'y'all' is a good start)

My use of the word 'you' in both cases is regarding the Pug-lite DLC in general. Kinda like Charlton Heston saying 'We are the NRA'. He doesn't really mean that no one else is, rather that he is typical.

So yes, if you (sing.) choose to take offense at this because you think I am slamming the DLC, by all means do. I certainly am offended by the DLC's lack of regard for Truman Democrats.

From Joe's lack of defense of Clinton (a fellow DLC bigwig, no less) to his tepid support of Gore, to Terry's 'leadership' I have pretty much exhausted my ability to hang with corporatist apologists. If you(plural) self describe as DLC supporters, y'all pretty much have to wear the Joe/Terry stuff, and if people call you (plural) fashion victims, well, that goes with the plaid double knit suit. Hey Hey!

I have been a yeller dawg Dem lifelong, as was my Mom. I will still vote for some Dems, but I am a Progressive without a party right now. Maybe we can restart the new deal... you (non-specific you) know, for the kids... and the old, and the disabled.

If what I complain about is what you personally support, ok, be a DLC Democrat, and be proud. The DLC boyz have the party helm right now, so if you (sing.) are a DLC supporter, enjoy it. Keep reaching out in a spirit of cooperation to Dubya. Do note the big frozen white things dead ahead while your (singular) leaders assist Captain McCokespoon at the helm of the tramp steamer of state, I'll just be gatherin' up the women folk and the kids, and heading toward the lifeboats.

And great for you personally, BTW for working for the disabled! I spent 7 years of my life working in Peds Ortho, and nearly 5 years in the ER, second and third shift.

Now that I am really messed up, I find I can't afford to be healthy. That's corporatist America for you (non-specific). I was good enough when their spoiled kids partied their BMW's into oncoming traffic, but now I am a parasite. More money for the rich, less for the undeserving poor--that is the cry of the investor class. And from everything I see, that is the same constituency that Bush AND the DLC claim. I wonder which the investor class thinks serves their master better?

20. Thank you
I'd like to suggest you try the word "their" instead of "your" or "you" ex. "their Joe-mentum"). IMO, it would be more clear. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

And he characterized Teresa in a terrible way. I forget what name he called her just now but it was very derogatory.

doing such a good job on your own?

Nantuckett? Elitist prick. The day our media persona starts living in million dollar mansions, you can believe they're too far away from us to give us a straight story.

And right next to his Big Guy Idol...Big Tim....

If anyone ever thought that Matthews and his ilk would do anything but support the Bushies...this should convince them.

Jack Welch has a home right next to "Big Tim." I wonder how Tweety's is positioned? Perhaps to the far "Right?"

and there are many guys in Ohio who like Teresa just the way she is. it's people like tweety who always made an issue out of her where there was none.

16. The media twisted every story into an attack on Gore.
They upended every word from Democrats to fit their own storyline. Tweety was one of the worst. And now Tweety wants to blame Dems?
