Why do we sit by and take it? Where are our leaders? |
|
I haven't posted in a few days, been ill and it gave me a chance to just sit back channel surf and think. I am astounded at the ultra right wing road this nation is on. I really see no concerted effort to stop it. Am I missing something? Are we still waiting for this mysterious recount deal to happen?
Where are the leaders of the Democratic party? Why aren't they fighting for this country. Is the strategy to stand back and watch the Repugs implode? I fear if that is the strategy, many people's lives will be ruined economically and many will die in a war that is unjust and illegal.
Are we as a nation just going to get up each day and be resigned to our fate under this emerging theocracy?
You see, I learned as I was ill for a few days that nothing is really being done about these problems, people just talk. Talk about next time, and endless diatribes on where we went wrong and how to do better next election.....the talk is cheap..It's time to mobilize and do something for a change. Where are our leaders? I am saddened each day by the news from Iraq, from our economy, from the Congress and all I see or hear is people talking about it. I don't have the answers but I am looking for a leader that does. Does anyone know where the next leader is? Man this is depressing!

"Is the strategy to stand back and watch the Repugs implode?"
Unfortunately, that IS the strategy. It has been the strategy for 4 years and it failed miserably and will continue to fail.
The next 4 years are going to be the worst of my lifetime (at least on a national, global level). I pray my personal life will continue to go well.

What little personal life I have is the only bright spot at the moment (aside from DU, of course).

the future of this country and of our collective families....Oh well
Leaderless and lost on the political sea of doom, death, destruction and economic depression.

5. Leaders? We don't need no stinkin' etc., etc. |
|
We ARE the leadership. WE are the leadership. It should be apparent by now that there ARE 2 parties in this country. Those who take no ownership in their destiny and those of us who do. It's an existential thing, really.
But DU is probably THE stellar example of the 21st century pamphleteering, a la18th century pamphleteers, who were probably at least 75% responsible for waking up the citizenry of the colonies and providing a major conduit for determining issues and methods.
We're it, baby! All other avenues are bought and paid for by others.

6. yeah but we need a face |
|
we need a human being who represents us.
As far as I'm concerned, Howard Dean is the only guy I will listen to now.
The Democratic Party sold us down the river.
I am done with the Democratic Party forever.
If Howard Dean starts a new party, I will join it.
Otherwise, I don't know what I'm gonna do. But I sure will never vote for a "Democrat" ever again.
Ralph Nader was right.

7. You're absolutely right. |
|
But, what if our face came up out of the grassroots of DU? And, before anyone say it can't be done, I say, equally improbable events have occurred from a grassroots groundswell (Gandhi comes to mind.)

8. well, that's a nice dream, but |
|
I feel like Dean's already in a great position to do this.
He's got the grass roots thing already happening.
He needs to form a new party. Millions would join it, starting with me.

9. Our "leaders" sit comfortably in the pockets |
|
of their corporate masters. they serve the paymasters, not the interest of the citizens of this country. They will fall, eventually. All fascists do, eventually. The stark reality is that the damage done by these people and the mass of ignorant, arrogant and uneducated people who support them, ironically against their own best interest, will be felt by the rest of us for at least three generations; if not more. Remember through the dark days ahead to take comfort that you have not personally added to the sorrow and misery of the world- seek and seize EVERY opportunity to balance the scales by being kind to others. Even those who are ignorant and arrogant. They are going to suffer shoulder to shoulder with the rest of us. Remember, the flag waving idiot who will encourage and support his flesh and blood to join the military today, may soon be a broken person having lost the person they love the most dearly to this illegal and immoral war. Be kind to all, that is your best defense and spiritual armor against the evil that has descended upon us all. Some of us recognize it, others will and your kindness today may help them tomorrow. BHN

10. Agree with the kindness part |
|
I really don't see being meek and just sitting idly by for as you say "three generations" which is in my opinion dead on. Somehow , someway we as progressive liberals must find a way to rise up against this tyranny that has infected our nation like a cancer. To stand by and suffer in silence is not an option for me. I am 45 years old and do not have the time to wait for the tide to change on it's on. I'm ready to become active now! I am still pushing the idea of a HUGE march on Washington to every progressive group ans organization I can find. It's time to "Stop people what's that sound everybody look what's goin down." What's going done is the demise of the greatest nation on the face of the earth. As Patriots we are duty bound to stand and fight for this nation, and against those who would do harm to this nation and our Constitution. Soon there will be more of us who are sick and tired of being sick and tired and we will rise up and protest non violently and take our nation back.

13. Mobilizing for change... |
|
Now there is an old idea that was quite handily defeated not long ago: How else could Raygun win twice?
The last best chance was four years ago, tell me what happened then?
At this stage protest, LTTE, writing to leaders, etc; will not stop this particular runaway train!
I see the choice as being between what to do with the "track" it is running on or just plain shutting it down.
