1. Ignore David Horowitz
David Horowitz has made a career of being a former liberal who has seen the light. He makes sensational, attention-getting statements which don't stand up to scrutiny. He's one of the wingers who accuse liberals of hating America. He attracts a following from the same crowd that reads Ayn Rand. Don't waste your time with him.

3. Instant refutation ...
"These school systems are 100% run by "progressives" and have been for nearly a century. During that time the left has helped to destroy the lives of hundreds of millions of poor children. The war continues to this day as ferociously as ever. The left's only interest in schools is to fund itself. " ...

Ehem ... HOW does one 'destroy the lives' of school children by educating them ? ....

The RIGHT has resisted public education for OVER a century, and IF they had been successful, those poor children would be COMPLETELY uneducated ....

More nonsense from those who resisted Child Labor Laws in the 20's .....

10. its pretty obvious that they have not been educated
thats the point.

Education has not been required of the parents so the kids slide. It's not a matter of money, its a matter of priorities.

DC, Atlanta, my town Richmond VA shoot most cities spend lavishly and the results are terrible.

Fault ? Mostly parents and they are only perpetuating what lack of direction their parents gave. A few teachers, there are some bad ones. Central administration for pissing the money away.

And the left generally refuses to understand that simply feeding bad schools money will solve nothing.

I'm sick of kids getting screwed, time to put an end to this now.

14. The alternative of spending 'lavishly' on schools ....
is spending LESS on schools ....

Or perhaps: ... not spending ANYTHING on public schools, which has been a gaol of the right since public education began in this nation ....

Hmmmmmmmm ? .... You blame parents .... I cannot disagree: .. MOST parents are either to self absorbed or too busy to be of much help .... yet that is a simplistic attack against a very complex issue .....

Look: .... Progressives see a need to SUPPORT schools: .. NONE are resisting efforts to IMPROVE education, .... feel free to represent EXACTLT how Progressives have DENIED a proper education by recommending MORE money be spent on schooling .....

Public Education has been a whipping boy of the RIGHT for many years ... many of them accusing the 'LEFT' of wasting money there for many many years ....

THIS much I know: .... WITHOUT public schooling, abhored by the Right and Libertarians without cease ...... nearly EVERY child would be FAR more ignorant now .....

How about if we spend ENOUGH money, and do it correctly ? .....

One might wonder why a Democrat would fall into line behind the arguments of the Right ......

13. Ignore Horowitz
but let's not ignore the poor kids going to school in Washington DC. They spend twice what our school district spends per kid and the education the kids are getting is terrible.

Give Jimmy Carter credit. He sent Amy to Washington's public schools. The rest of the politicians won't do that with their kids. Clinton kept Clesea far away from Washington's public schools.

David Horowitz is not what's wrong with Washington's public school system.

5. There are problems with some public school systems,
but that doesn't mean that public education per se is bad. After all, public school systems in Europe and Asia get fine results.

Now I've heard many reports about how the DC public school system is corrupt, but I bet if all the Congressional and Senatorial children were required to attend District schools, the system would improve in a hurry.

11. theres nothing wrong and everything right about the idea of public schools
but they have to be given a chance. And parents are the only ones who can do that.

6. we do spend a lot of money
and the NEA resists testing, and home schooling and private schools enrollment is up, in spite of a falling economy. i know that support at home is the best educational tool, but even support can't compete with the children in public schools as a form of day-care.i have no answers, only many questions about public education

7. Check out the data
The states with the worst test scores are the ones without teachers unions.

9. did my homework
NEA has chapters in every state, and since private schools are usually open shop and public schools are heavily unionized, and private schools test scores are higher than public schools in the 40 states i checked out, i suggest you check some data. ciao

16. LOL! SO you are saying that unionized labor leads to low test scores!
There's a nice exercize in assigning false cause.

How about sharing your sources with us...we're dying to see them. You made the claim, pony up the facts.

And while you are at it, please demonstrate that it has nothing to do with any other factors other than the fact that the educators belong to unions.

8. " There is no connection between performance and reward"
What a freakin' crock!

Most products in America's economy have to be made only adequately; otherwise they'll last for years and people won't buy more - and then the economy collapses. Okay, that's a very simply analysis but it's not inaccurate.

Besides, how many corporate CEOs deserve the reward they make? (not I say 'make' and not 'earn' because they really don't earn it; not when the big ones control most of the industry they're in.)

15. he's full of crap however
I have this gut feeling that many in the Dem. party (at least the political members) are taking minorities for granted and just saying, "They'll always be for us; who are they gonna vote for? Republicans? " They need to be getting back on the ball when it comes to education. It's great to attack this craptastic war but our school systems are beginning to fall apart. We need to fix what we have and make it so that when someone says the word voucher, it will only be for $5 off their next lube job.

18. There are certain sources of "information" that may
seriously damage your ability to think and reason in a coherent manner. David Whoreashitz is near the top of that list.
