The U. S. is a Masonic Nation founded on the principles of Free Masonry!
This is my newest mantra against the Christofascists when they lie about the official religion of the United States, and there's far more evidence to support this statement than their bogus "this is a Christian Nation" lie.

Of the 56 signers of the Declaration of Independence, 50 were known to be Free Masons and only one was known not to be a Mason.

The first inauguration was CLEARLY a Masonic ritual, look at the pictures.

Masonic symbolism is rampant both in our money and upon the buildings our government is housed within.

The foundations of our oldest and most important governmental buildings were laid by Free Masons.

So clearly, the United States is a Masonic Nation founded upon the principles of Free Masonry.

HOW DO MASONS HELP OTHERS?

The basic premise of Freemasonry is "The Brotherhood of Man under the Fatherhood of God." With that thought uppermost in mind, Masons strive to learn how better to serve that "brotherhood of man"-charitably-not just with money (although a recent survey revealed that over two million Masonic dollars are.....

from a faq: http://web.mit.edu/dryfoo/Masonry/Misc/FAQ.html

(1) What are the requirements for becoming a Mason?

Candidates must be male, at least 21 years of age, able to profess a
belief in God, and of good character.

For information on mixed-sex Masonry, see the discussion on Co-Masonry
in II, 7.

(5) Can (fill in the name of the religion) be a Mason?

The only religious requirement is that candidates believe in the
Supreme Being. If you can in good faith profess a belief in the
Supreme Being, you are eligible to be a Mason. No atheists will
ever knowingly be made a Mason.

16. "the concept of women becoming Masons is an anathema"
To the majority of Freemasons today (dominated by US and Canadian brethren), the concept of women becoming Masons is an anathema. This is not because of some sexist feeling or because they feel women are incapable of understanding and appreciating the lessons of Freemasonry. It is because, simply, in their obligation, they have sworn not to be present at the making of a woman a Mason. This is, as stated by their Grand Lodge, one of the 'Landmarks of Freemasonry' and as such, is unchangeable.

In fact, no "mainstream" Lodge/Grand Lodge of Masons accept women as members or recognize those lodges which do. (See our page on recognition for more information on this thorny topic.)

and they are "co-ed." They say they are founding on the ideals of the French revolution. They're the more mystical side of the Masons, into symbology and iconography and codes and whatnot. Sort of like the DaVinci Code, I guess.

40. Eastern Order of Co-Masonry is for men and women
There is a long varied history of secret society's. The society's that generated from the French have always accepted and venerated women. In the US that tradition is upheld by the Co-Masons. You can google them. If you live in a big city they'll have a lodge.

Please be aware that Masonry at it's deepest level with be anathematic to Christianity as currently practiced in the US.

50. uhhhh,,,,, i'm embarassed to
... admit this but there is a 'female' branch of Freemasonry called the 'Eastern Star' and i was one once- .... i was also a fundie- but i've been freed from that blindness and bondage ...... most 'fundies' are very UN-masonic- simply because they don't denfine God to the 'fundie' approval- i gave up my association with the 'star' because of the 'church' i gave up the 'fundementalist' mentality because i finally opened my eyes and saw the hyprocricy and lying that went on to 'justify' what was (in my view) nothing more than a way to 'control' and 'play God' with the lives of others- while justifying 'our' own mis-deeds as 'tough love' or 'caring'-

i still believe in Christ- and try and follow HIS teachings- as MLK and Gandhi and Mother Teresa lived lives of non-violence, tolerance and love for our fellow men/women.

32. This is like ...
... this is kinda like the 12 step thing where the door can be a "higher power".

If Jefferson can be a Mason, then pretty much ANYONE can by simply substituting the clockwork nature of the universe as being the "supreme being".

And that actually fits a little better with the mason "great architect" notion of god.

Googling the Web will get you a lot of hits on conspiracy sites that use Masonry as a whipping boy the way Nazis used Jews. In fact, they get lazy sometimes and just talk about the Judeo-Masonic conspiracy.

that the English army "laid down" on the job of defeating the colonists in 1774-1783. Masonic activitiy was endemic in the English officer class with most regiments supporting a lodge. The "conspiracy theory" is that the Englsih army "threw" the war because they wanted to see a new nation founded on masonic principles.

Pilgrims practiced thier own religious persecution-

against the Quakers, and anyone who didn't follow the "Pilgrim" religion- it's interesting to learn more about what they 'believed' and how they banished and abused others simply for not 'believing' as they did- if that's religous 'freedom' then what is opression???

It's interesting to study them- Gov. Winthrop of Mass- banished Roger..Williams? or was it Clark? who went on to found Providence RI where Quakers were free to worship as were Catholics- and he also believed that the Native Americans were NOT 'less than human' and that they should be treated with respect, and any transactions that were made with them should be honored-

Thank GOD the nation wasn't founded by the "puritians"- and that alot was learned between 1620 and 1776-

Taxation without representation- and freedom from being 'ruled' by a King a contenent away were the straws that broke the revolutianaries back- not 'religion'-

Yeah...and people have a tendency to forget that 150 year span between landing on this continent and the founding of the country that we call the United States of America...

59. No, Franklin was a Mason, and an Influential one
A review of the role of the mason's in American History reveals the influential role of the Free and Associated Masons in our history.

The research quickly demonstrates the importance of the lodges from the time of the revolution. The Committees of Public Safety and Correspondence were critical in the organization of the American Revolution.

These committees carried out their activities in Masonic code.
Samuel Adams's lodge was the home base of the "Indians" of the Boston Tea Party. Ben Franklin, along with Otis of Connecticut, was the "Founding Father" of the American Blue Lodges
