2. Somebody please help me...
I need to get a grasp on this "Kool-Aid" allusion. I hear it on the right and the left and I know it refers to Rev. Jim Jones (another proud Hoosier legend), but how, precisely, is it used and what does it imply?

For instance, in this situation, does it mean that the state department has "taken the Kool-Aid," i.e. it can't allow any new interpretation of policy vis-a-vis the administration? Or, does it mean that they've refused to drink the Bush "Kool-Aid?" Or, does it mean the administration just wishes the entire state department would drink the Kool-Aid like Jones's followers did in French Guyana in 1979?

Sorry, I guess I had a little too much purple Kool-Aid in the 70's.

3. "Drinking the Kool-Aid", in this context, means to...
...adopt a certain viewpoint or perspective uncritically. In the Doonsbury strip above "Foggy Bottom Kool-Aid" means the people over in the State Department have their own view of the world, which is different from the Bush perspective, which is the Right and True Way (tm).

Remember: YOUR guys are "team players" who "get with the program". Those OTHER guys "drink the Kool-Aid".

4. That's how I read it too.
A classic bit of projection AND rationalization on behalf of the White House characters.

6. So it's the same old
"if you don't believe what we believe, there's something wrong with your brain..."

"How can we be truly united if you won't believe what we tell you?"
