DUers could you check something out?
The Nevada Secretary of State's office is quoting a bizarre $500,000 rate for a recount of the presidential race there. Can anybody quickly find a reference to a specific cost for a statewide recount there in the past?

It's probably a wild goose chase but worth a try.

Thanks,
Hedda

1. Washington State is demanding $750,000.00 to do the recount
...for the governors race and it is only 42 votes apart. Something is rotten in the United States.

2. In 1998 , the Reid/Ensign Senate race recount only cost 59K
<snip>

Although Ensign paid $59,108 to the secretary of state to cover the county costs, the two candidates also had to pay their own costs to monitor the recount.
