Have any of you ever taken Adderall or Ritalin?
I'm currently taking Adderall and am starting to think it was a mistake to ever start.

Do you think taking amphetamines could have any severe long term affects?

Thanks.

1. I live on Ritalin
but I am a narcoleptic. I have been taking it for about 25 years. No problems unless I don't take it.

2. Yep, I"m on Adderall too.
If you need it it can be a real help. And from everything I've read, there are no long term effects. It probably takes a few days to completely get out of your system but once it's out, it's totally gone until you take it again.

If you feel strange, try a smaller dose. I take a pretty small dosage and fine it makes a pretty big difference in my being able to concentrate. Without it I have to get up and wander around about every half hour or so. With it I can work all through the day like everybody else.

What kind of problems are you having?

3. What's your dosage?
I think the problem is my dosage is waaaaaaay to strong (30 mg Adderall XR). I'm not having a problem getting work done, but I've noticed it makes me more anti-social than I was in the past.

4. love the honesty in that statement!!
the anti-social part. That seems like a high dose for just starting out. I take 20mg or less a day. Have for years. Ask your prescribing doc about the anti-social part, especially if you feel like ripping someone's head off.

7. I've been thinking the dosage was too high as well
I'll experiment with lowering the dosage, and if I still have problems after that I'll contact my doctor.

5. Yeah, too much can cause odd reactions.
I take one 20mg in the morning and that's all. If I take more I get jumpy and twitchy. Ask you doctor to give you a lighter dose.

8. Jumpy and Twitchy describes how I feel
I'm going to have to empty the capsules until I feel they're at about 20mg.

Thanks for the help

9. I've been on ritalin for 10 years

And I'm 36. The first 26 years of my life was a huge struggle. I was kicked out schools for disruptive behavior and had been arrested for being a dick with cops and fighting and stuff. But I still managed to graduate college.
I got on ritalin after college and became a newspaper reporter, and even though I still had trouble concentrating at times, it was a huge difference. Especially when I was assigned to boring stories.
And it made me less whacko. Before, I was just a nut. I had plenty of friends, but I was known as the crazy one. I had trouble with relationships and everything. Ritalin is not a magic bullet, but I don't know what I would do without it.
But lately, I've been thinking of switching to Adderall because I heard it lasts longer than Ritalin.

11. I take Adderall XR
I just remembered.
The XR version is time released so it lasts a full 8 to 10 hours. Adderall also has smoother transitions into and out of the effect than Ritalin.

14. my cousin hated them both..
she took Adderall for the last two years and finally stopped seeing the doctor who wrote the prescriptions.

it always kept her in a bad mood, and did little to help her concentrate!
