Rethugs Jumping On Mt. St. Helens Being Top Polluter!
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20041202/ap_on_sc/st__helens_pollution_1

I've heard comments now to the effect that "no one" should listen to what "libs" say about pollution now.

This is so ridiculous.

3. What's ridiculous about it?

While Mt Saint Helens is pumping out all that Sulfer Dioxide it's Washington state's number one polluter.

Considering where it is and what state I was in, I would say it's true. Now, if we stuck in in one of the coal mining states it would have competition.

At the bottom is this:

Worldwide, sulfur dioxide emissions from volcanoes add up to about 15 million tons a year, compared to the 200 million tons produced by power plants and other human activities.

10. The ridiculous part is that the rethugs and anti-environmentalists
are using this as justification for continuing to rape the environment by saying natural pollution is worse than man made pollution so "what's the problem with man made pollution"

or at least that was my point.

I have a bad habit of listening to Limbaugh for brief periods in my car and that was what he was talking about yesterday.

11. Exactly, but Limbaugh and others are already using this to try to
discredit "liberal" studies of pollution and polluters.

6. The problem is
Earth has an equilibrium that has accounted for natural volcanic activity. Man-made pollutants and green house gases are outside (on top off) this norm and put the system at a different state -- global climate change.

12. No i doesn't
"Earth has an equilibrium that has accounted for natural volcanic activity."

This is just plain wrong. Sorry not even close. The Earths atmosphere is not at equilibrium. It is the life on Earth that keeps it out of equilibrium. If the atmosphere went to thermodynamic equilibrium we'd be $#$@#$@#.

17. Nope
Life FORMS an equilibrium? Got me what you're talking about. But I'm no longer interested in the subject. Believe that magic Earth and it's "natural" SO2 cycle all you want. Have fun. Science is more fun when you make it up.

19. I'm really not sure what you're talking about.
The atmosphere does have an equilibrium. There is an SO2 cycle. And the massive contributions of greenhouses gasses caused by the industrial revolution has thrown that equilibrium completely out of wack.
