It won't be long now....
One of Bush's 9-11 trolls wants to eliminate one of the last vestiges of democracy in the U.S.:

Tenet calls for Internet security

--Former CIA Director George J. Tenet yesterday called for new security measures to guard against attacks on the United States that use the Internet, which he called "a potential Achilles' heel." The former CIA director said telecommunications — and specifically the Internet — are a back door through which terrorists and other enemies of the United States could attack the country... He said known adversaries, including "intelligence services, military organizations and non-state actors," are researching information attacks against the United States. Access to networks like the World Wide Web might need to be limited to those who can show they take security seriously, he said.

9. I agree RBHam the Internet WILL be killed (and HOWDY)
It's an obvious progression of Tyranny.Just think of how powerless people will feel without the ONLY source of free speech(besides speech) available to them taken away.

should be for business use only.

16. If the internet is shut down...
People will start dial-up BBS's again.

There are scads of out-of-work network programmers who would kick into high gear.

17. Don't be afraid, live your life in the open.
Don't back down, don't be intimidated. Always speak your mind, and stand by your beliefs.

If you are inclined to be an electronics geek, learn how to build networks, radio, and telecommunications systems from scratch.

But I think George J. Tenet, like John Ashcroft, reveals himself to be a silly old fart; utterly clueless. His next job should he decide to accept it is to sift through all the vacuous text messaging of American teenagers. There has got to be a few terrorist messages (and maybe even a pony!) in there somewhere...
