SUPPORT TARGET'S DECISION ON SALVATION ARMY |
|
My mom lived down the street from two of the Salvation Army's top officers and they bragged often about the stuff they "skimmed" off the top of donations - antiques, etc... My mom said they were nasty people, and their house was filled with stuff they took from donations.
I have also heard of them skimming money, good Christians that they are, and of course, their whole purpose is converting people to Christianity. Now if only they could learn to behave like Christ themselves.

My great uncle was a captain in the Salvation Army, and chose to live his life among the poor in St. Louis. He was a very pious man, never took any of the donations, just tried to help those who were down and out, never tried to convert his more conventional brothers. I'm sad to hear that the organization has changed so much.

My friends mother,(who practically raised me), was dying of cancer, at age 48, and told us that she wants donations to go to the SA because they helped her father out so much when he was in need. You cannot believe how much I miss Jean. She would be so sad to hear what the SA has become.

6. I dropped off a chair at the Goodwill pickup and while I was |
|
getting something else out of my car I overheard the 2 guys; one said "this is a nice chair" and the other said "well, take it home if you like it". Having heard that if they write you a receipt they have to turn the stuff in, I asked for a receipt. I really believe between the cost of running these places and the obvious theft (which I'm not too sure I wouldn't do myself ha), that these places are really just a glorified trash dump for those of us who don't have a clue where the trash dump is. I choose to try and not let things like this bother me, but sometimes they still do.
