Eliot Spitzer or Charles Schumer for NY Governor?
I like them both, but I'm going to have to go with the non-establishment candidate, and put my bets on Eliot Spitzer. He's too good.

1. Keep Schumer in the Senate. Spitzer for governor (NT)

5. Agreed
Gov is a better place to jump to Pres from, and Spitzer's a sharper knife than Schumer - who I also greatly respect, but Schumer wasn't ready to draw blood from Gonzales ("Geneva Conventions ... quaint"), so Spitzer deserves the governorship.

2. I thought Schumer ruled out a Governor bid
Either way, they're both strong candidates.

8. 90% chance he runs, I'd say
here in NY, it's just kind of assumed

9. Nope, but it sure hints it.
That doesn't look anything like an AG site. Read around it. He talks about future endeavors and stuff like that.

4. yes, Schumer did rule it out
does anyone know if this means Spitzer is pretty much in for Governor ? or is there going to be a serious Republican candidate running against him ?

6. Schumer's out, which is good
he's an effective senator, and a very good advocate for the city.

Spitzer will crack heads as governor, which is good, and it will position him for national politics, which I don't think is something that Schumer aspires to.

13. Thanks for asking...
Honestly, I think he's trying to slowly kill himself. He's a diabetic and has chronic heart disease, and he still has been eating tons of sweets and salt and he hasn't been taking his medicine. I think he'll probably be ok--he's a tough guy--but I wouldn't call his condition that fantastic...

I really do appreciate your asking, though...

16. I hope so too...
though I doubt he'll learn his lesson--he's tough, and equally stubborn

10. Schumer's out, Spitzer's in
Which is good, because Albany needs a total de-lousing, and Schumer's too much of a go-along get-along kind of guy. His heart's in the right place and he's an effective politician, but I don't think he has the stomach to tear apart the Bruno/Silver death-grip on New York state politics. Spitzer has what it takes.

12. I think Spitzer is great..
he was ridiculed as just another son of a rich guy who now wanted to be a politician, but he's taken his job about as seriously as one can and to great effect. (Does anyone remember a thing his predecessor did?) He's got brains & balls. I don't know if Pataki is expected to run again, but I imagine their debates would be amusing.

I'd always vote for Schumer as a democrat, but I find him to be more of a show-boater than anything else.

15. I love Spitzer
And I used to email him all the time about the voting machines and remind him that he won the Atty Gen'l spot in a RECOUNT, it was so close. I used to write him all the time to say that if we got EV machines in NY he could forget the governorship. I think he could be a real ally on this issue. And I think he will win NY no problem.
