my best friend of some 40 years who has always been politically active for liberal causes has totally disengaged from what's happening in this country . . . says he doesn't believe in conspiracy theories, and that "things are what they are" . . . I'm not only royally pissed at him, I'm absolutely stunned that he refuses to engage at all with what's happening in Iraq, with the election, or any other issue . . .

I need to send this guy a serious wakeup call, and I recall a site with tons of horribly graphic photos of civilian casualties . . . I know I have it bookmarked somewhere, but it will take me forever to find it . . . anyone happen to have the link handy? . . . TIA . . .

6. Sadly, there is a lot of detachment going around. No one wants to believe

what is going on and how bad things are.

It takes more than horror to engage with reality. For coping purposes, it's important to have a coherent narrative of what is going on so one doesn't drift into general anxiety and get depressed and dysfunctional.

I hope you can clearly describe who is in the White House (old Nixon and Reagan admin. criminals) and what they are up to (trying to take over the world by permanently occupying the middle east oil spigot our entire culture runs on).

Tell him that they suspended much of the Bill of Rights and decided they could torture, disappear, imprison, and execute whoever they wanted to by saying it was "fighting terror."

Tell him that an alliance of the religiously insane fundies who want to replace the Constitution with the Bible combined with the G.O.P. (Guns, Oil, and Pharmaceuticals) Party of corporate fascists has become the Dominionist Movement of Christo-Fascism.

That ought to clue him in!
