Patriotic Americans Boycotting Anti-American Hollywood

Do You Know Who YOUR Entertainment Dollars Are Supporting?

The Boycott List

http://www.salon.com/ent/col/fix/2004/12/03/fri/index.html

A Will Smith boycott? Hard as it is to imagine anyone questioning the values of a man who once left the Academy Awards -- shortly before the winner of the category in which he'd been nominated was announced -- to rush to the side of his ill child, that's precisely what activist Jon Alvarez, who runs the Web site PABAAH.com (Patriotic Americans Boycotting Anti-American Hollywood), is doing. Alvarez is trying to start and stoke a movement against Will Smith in response to comments the actor reportedly made four months ago to a German newspaper, Frankfurter Allgemeine. Asked whether the 9/11 attacks had changed him, Smith said, "No. Absolutely not. When you grow up black in America, you have a completely different view of the world than white Americans. We blacks live with a constant feeling of unease. And whether you are wounded in an attack by a racist cop or in a terrorist attack, I'm sorry, it makes no difference." Smith continued, "In the '60s, blacks were continuously the victims of terrorist attacks. It was civil terrorism, but terrorism nonetheless. We are used to being attacked. That constant state of vigilance -- a sort of defensive state -- that hasn't changed at all. For me, nothing has changed at all." May sound reasonable to you, but apparently not, alas, to Alvarez, who's planning to forswear all Smith movies henceforth -- and hopes others do the same. (Lloyd Grove's Lowdown)

15. The right is scared of Will Smith. They're afraid he'll run for office....
Which I am 99% certain he will.

2. And there will be more and more ...
So many of these wing-nut groups are going to form that all they will have to do is hold hands, tip over, and they will crush the country.

Perhaps this is just some form of emergent, or anti-emergent, behavior?

Hardly any movies left for them to see. Good. They are probably the ones who sit there and talk through the whole show anyway.

8. Pointing out that racism exists is unpatriotic?
That's funny. I always thought that closing your eyes to the problems America still needs to work on was unpatriotic. Then again, I'm an evil liberal who wants America to be the very best. What do I know. :eyes:

Was it Bill Maher who said that neocons treat their country the same way a 5 year old treats his/her mommy in the sense that mommy is perfect and could never do anything wrong at that age? So true.

13. It was Al Franken who said it in his book, not Maher.
I don't see where anything Will said could be construed as unpatriotic, even by extreme right wingers.

9. Will Smith of the jingoistic "ID4"? Sounds out of character to me.
He has been so deliberately apolitical thus far...

But if he actually said those things, more power to him - maybe he's not the shallow pop-culture fluke I figured him for.

12. I highly recommend the movie "I, Robot" with WILL SMITH...
...in the leading role.

The quote from Smith is exactly on target. Unfortunately...America hasn't changed much since the 'terrorist 60s'...except for racism being more subtle and institutionallzed.

20. Double Feature: That and "Enemy of the State"
in which Smith finds himself in possession of Something that They want very badly. They (Asscroft clones, all) will stop at NOTHING to get it: taking away his job, his home, rejecting his credit cards -- everything.

14. I love that site. Check out some of the pictures in their image gallery...
Really scary shit.

Perhaps my favorite PABAAH boycott ever was last year when "Elf" came out. They seriously thought the movie was a Communist plot to destroy the traditional Christian holiday of Christmas because Ed Asner played Santa. For a long time I thought that site was some of the best satire I'd ever read, until I realized the guy who runs it is dead fucking serious.

16. any mention of that QUEER cartoon, Shark Tale?
http://headlines.agapepress.org/archive/11/afa/172004c.asp

Of course, when it comes to kids, this is tricky stuff. The film does not come right out and say that we should all accept homosexuality. And, naturally, children should be taught to be accepting of others.

But as Plugged In's Steven Isaac notes, "Had this movie been released 20 years ago, nobody would have been calling attention to this subject." Two decades ago, accepting differences meant accepting a person who might have a different skin color, or be from a different ethnic background.

Such differences are immutable characteristics, however, and not sexual choices. In this respect, Shark Tale comes far too close to taking a bite out of traditional moral and spiritual beliefs.

28. LOL. It was a cute movie.
If the shark was meant to be a message of acceptance of gays, GREAT!

I took my 4 and 6 year old. I hope the message sunk in. I keep them far away from televangelists and churches, not gays.

Tsk tsk. Just what I would expect from people who find grievous fault with the quoted comments of Will Smith.

26. what they probably think
They probably think that the Nazis were good, but just went a little too far with that Jewish thing...

Sort of like that old Star Trek episode "Patterns of Force" where a scientist used Nazism to rally a defeated culture to great power... only to see them become evil like the old Earth nazis.
