Guess all hell will break loose in January
Edited on Fri Dec-03-04 04:00 PM by Blue_Roses
Other than the white house shuffle going on now with the "comings and goings" of this administration's cabinet, things seem to be pretty quiet--that is "agenda" wise. I just feel like after the 1st though all hell is gonna break loose and we're in for a bumpy ride.

I am very worried about Social Security. This is something that Dems seriously need to fight. I already see our health insurance going up in January--got that notice in the mail today. How long till it's totally gone? I worry for our veterans since many VA hospitals are closing their doors.

I don't think Roe v. Wade will be touched though. This isn't something that really concerns Bush, just the fundies. I don't think he cares one way or another. I remember in '88 when I was worried Bush Sr. would go after Roe v Wade, but that wasn't his biggest concern. I hope I'm right on this one.

3. we got lucky in 88
Bush Sr. nominated Souter to SCotUS, thinking he was a conservative who would help overturn RvW. Turned out different.

This time will we be so lucky?

12. I hope so.
I was working as a counselor at an abortion clinic in '88, so that had us all on our toes. Many things can change on a dime though. It would be sad and disastrous to take the freedom of choice away from women--and children believe it or not. That's what the fundies don't see--the many issues that go into making this decision. This continues to be a decision between a woman, her doctor, and her God. When a child is involved with an unplanned pregnancy--and I have seen some as young as 11 and 12 years old--it's heartbreaking. To take this right away--by MEN, no less--is unthinkable.

5. I really believe * won't push to repeal Roe v Wade.
He's had four years with a Republican House, a passive compliant Senate, and the Supreme Court in his hip pocket. Nothing to stop him. Why hasn't he done anything about it yet? Maybe because it serves valuably as red meat for his fundy wingnut base: gets them "het up" and sending in money. Once you kill the bogeyman, what do you scare the villagers with?

9. But why would Karl work any harder than he needs to?
The Mighty Wurlitzer is sitting in the corner, polished and tuned, ready to be played. Why would he learn a different instrument?

11. why would they care about your vote?
they'll just make one up for you.

They've figured out how to do that now.

They'll do whatever the hell they feel like. Accountability is history.

Edited on Fri Dec-03-04 04:04 PM by Blue_Roses
it's one thing if we know the vote "counts" but now we know it doesn't even count. We have to bust this voting fraud wide open. Where are the damn whistleblowers? Guess they're too busy counting the money:eyes:

16. I used to worry about Roe vs. Wade
but then I realized that it's more of the candy the conservatives feed their fundy base. They never plan to come through and the fundies never catch on. Reagan reeled them in twice. Bush, Sr. did the same. And Jr. has been playing his cagey game very well. But I suspect the reality is one the fundies just don't want to face: underneath it all, most men want legal abortion. And as long as that continues, we women will have choice.

17. I don't think people should
console themselves on Roe v Wade just because Reagan and Bush Sr never really went after them.

W has a "mandate", remember? All that matters is that he thinks he does, not what the vote count actually was.

His hold over all branches of government is stronger than ever, he doesn't need to worry about re-election (although I wouldn't put it past the Republicans to try to repeal the 22nd amendment which limits the number of terms) and he along with many people around him truly believe he was sent by God.

I am very, very afraid about what could happen in the next four years. Things will undoubtedly get much worse before they get better.

The last time the Republicans were this strong was in 1928. Let's hope history repeats itself.

18. My guess is that it will be the last 'moral issue' to go
The mileage they're getting from all this anti-gay pageantry will keep the fundies happy for a long while. They wont have to worry about overturning RvW until after 2006. Meanwhile, sanctity of marriage and ban gay books and gay teachers. Why break a fifty when you've got so many singles?

20. It's quiet now...
...because all the kooks are holed up, figuring out how to divide the spoils and rape the country (more). Just wait until after the inaguration er coronation er installation. All hell WILL break loose.

Then the morans who voted for * will start getting their financial throats cut. Or, rather, death by a thousand cuts. Already heard that the admin creeps are saying that social security future benefits will decrease (but the precious tax cuts to the wealthy are safe, praise jeebus).

Yeah, the morans will suffer, but my sense of schadenfreude is dampened by the thought that all of us upright-walkers will also suffer.

21. Sad and scarey thing is
the poor--and I mean literally poor--morons who voted for Bush will have to see it get REAL bad before they see that they are being screwed. They just don't get it. I saw a lady today who was obviously struggling financially with a Bush/Cheney sticker on her bumper. Stupid. Pure and simple stupidity.

26. Only have to wait until the SOTU speech, you'll see then
What Bush and his nut cases have planed for the next four years. Bush doesn't want to mess with RVW,not enough money in it for him and Corporations. Better to keep this invasion dragging along or invade a new country. How to profiteer for Corporations is all they really care about.
