Anyone else heard about this thing regarding Starbucks?
Sorry if this has already been posted to DU. I just found this in my e-mail box and have no idea if it's true, but I thought it was interesting nonetheless:

First let me start of by saying I have writen Starbucks. This is the letter I wrote them and the letter that got it all started. I am waiting for a reply.

I received this in an e-mail. Let me just say that if it is true that you do not support our men I have no reservations about turning this mail over to the press and anyone else I know. It is my hope these claims are false. I hope your company appreciates the work that our men do. It saddens me to think that my favorite coffee co. would be so anti American.

Thank you for your time and consideration in this matter.

Rebecca Shen
Wife to United States Army Soldier Deployed to Iraq.

Please pass this along to anyone you know, this needs to get out in the open.

Recently Marines over in Iraq supporting this country in OIF wrote to Starbucks because they wanted to let them know how much they liked their coffee and try to score some free coffee grounds. Starbucks wrote back telling the Marines thanks for their support in their business, but that they don't support the War and anyone in it and that they won't send them the Coffee.

So as not to offend them we should not support in buying any Starbucks products. As a War vet and writing to you patriots I feel we should get this out in the open. I know this War might not be very popular with some folks, but that doesn't mean we don't support the boys on the ground fighting street to street and house to house for what they and I believe is right. If you feel the same as I do then pass this along, or you can discard it and I'll never know.

Thanks very much for your support to me, and I know you'll all be there again here soon when I deploy once more.

Simper Fidelis,
Sgt Howard C. Wright
1st Force Recon Co
1st Plt PLT RTO

1. I don't drink Starbucks, I think their coffee sucks, so I can't help much.
But if I did drink it, I would be happy to stop in support of this effort.

2. Urban legend, to me
This sounds like an urban legend. From what I know of Starbucks and its attempts to protect its image, I sincerely doubt that this is true.

14. What you said ISOS.
I don't like or drink their coffee but no business would be stupid enough to say anything like that. Especially not one as big as Starbucks. Urban Legend all the way. Big hint...send this to everyone you know.

3. Snopes is our friend.
It's false.

In any case, your local coffee shop probably has better coffee that costs less (although, as far as corporations go, Starbucks treats its employees pretty well).

4. Judging by the writing skills it is a freeper fabrication.
I certainly hope no bona fide Marine writes that badly.

5. I'll bet $5 that this is not true
The idea that anyone over at Starbucks headquarters would tell a soldier that they don't support the people forced to fight there is ridiculous. It's bad business and they're interested in making a profit just like any other corporation.

12. True
...but it's strangely appropriate that a freeper would misquote it at 'Simper Fidelis'. Perhaps they take a secret oath to simper faithfully for Dumbya?

9. I detect the strong aroma of bullshit
Look at this:

"Starbucks wrote back telling the Marines thanks for their support in their business, but that they don't support the War and anyone in it and that they won't send them the Coffee."

I'm not that gullible.

18. Indeed, and not the first time...
...I seem to recall a similar "letter," ostensibly from the wife of a firefighter at Ground Zero, saying that Starbucks was refusing to give coffee to the rescue workers at the site, and calling for a similar boycott.

I think it's basically a freeper fabrication to paint a company from lefty Seattle with strong overtones of being tied to the "urban elite" (and owned by...gasp!...a Jew) as traitorous and worthy of being shunned.

17. Freeper attack on a democratic supporter
Starbucks is true blue. I like the local coffee house better when I want to sip a latte (Im a howard dean democrat), but Starbucks beans are great for the home brew.

19. I've Never Liked Starbucks For Some Reason
I like Caribou Coffee better and they have a neat store.

Caribou's always tasted better where as Starbucks has a strong after taste to me.

Just my opinion.
