1. I said yes
but I don't think wingnuts have any place in Government. I do think that the love of God is my guiding principle, and thus I want to reciprocate that to every one. I do not want to legislate "Christian law or Christiainty" but I do want to see that the guiding principles have a place in Government. Specificlly, helping the poor and less fortunate and having tolerance of all people. It is the spirit of the law that I think has a place in Government, not the letter of the law.

2. the key word here is 'indvidiual'
my belief system influences everything I do, so of course it will influence my political activity. However, my belief system is such that there would be no way I would make others of my faith vote in lockstep with me, nor would I influence them to do so. An example: The head of my church never has spoken publicly about her political beliefs. She spoke privately to me about them during the primaries;she was backing one candidate, I another. Even though she knew that, she never tried to influence me to change. I act the same way.

3. IT's difficult
to separate the two out.

I'm not particularly religious but do not expect those I vote for to share my beliefs. I really don't care what people believe. They can take Alice in WOnderland literally just as long as they don't insist that we all start jumping down rabbit holes.

4. nope
Morals and faith are two separate things.

Morals should influence our politics, personal faith in God should be separate. In other words, I want to hear "this is morally right" not "God tells me this is right."

6. Yes, people's individual faiths, beliefs, value systems

do influence their politics. Why should that be any surprise?

Somehow though, I think that you're going to draw conclusions from the answers that go far beyond what's actually contained in them.

7. I do
and I think that the RW fundies are forcing us to recognize this.

The problem with fundie pushers is that they suck as thinkers. That's why they peddle flawed formulas from their "values" franchises.

"Would you like a little righteousness with that compassion? It's on sale today." It's the Walmart approach to spirituality.

Their agenda needs a serious upgrade before it'll do what they want it to do.

8. There is a major difference between
influencing and becoming out politics.

One-issue "moral" voters are deluded dipshits.

9. In a democracy, ANYTHING is allowed to influence an individual's politics
Anything else is, by definition, undemocratic.

Sad that some DUers are in favor of undemocratic politics

10. Yes, "when applicable".
Doesn't apply to everyone, but whatever motivates you is great, so long as it's motivating you in the direction of justice and equality for everyone.

11. Looks Like A "Bait And Switch"
... but then again, I'm just a suspicious type. You've asked one question in the subject line, yet the answers in your poll qualify the answer with the word "individual".

That's quite a difference from what you appeared to be asking in the first place.

12. This is way more complex than the question looks.
Ultimately, any politics that are prescriptive, that make decisions about what should be done, are based on someone's beliefs about what should be done. I realize this could easily be used as a right-wing talking point, but I don't think it does the topic justice to deny this. It's just a complexity we have to deal with when we talk about these things.
