6. I come here for a few reasons...

It's a good source of information about what's happening at the grassroots level across the country, there is often good debate (and it's fun to watch the flame wars!), and some of the stuff in the lounge is wicked funny.

I disagree with some of what's posted here, but that doesn't mean it's a waste of my time to visit.

There's not a major American media outlet I still trust, so I come to DU as a great source for news. I really appreciate the DUers from overseas who give us another perspective on what's happening around the world and post news articles from non-US sources.

I do suspect a few people of doing this though. And my question to them has to be: why do it? Why seek out negative attention, when positive attention is so much nicer?

I really do try and stay away from flame wars, but when someone really begins slamming on my community with stupid absurd remarks, I really just can't help but try and teach this person. But alas, some people just can't learn respect for all people.

The only flame wars I have gotten into on DU have been ones concerning the LGBT community, and one concerning female mutilation and male circumcision. The latter of the two really blew me away, because I actually had words with someone I was very close to on DU, and never throught we would disagree about anything. It never stopped me from liking this person, but it just shocked me.
