2. My guess
Whenever a liberal mentions the troops that are caught in Bush's War the GOP response is "well they signed up, so they should have expected to fight".

When a former NFL player dies, those same people then fawn over the guy as if his sacrifice was somehow worth more than the rest of those who died.

3. The poster mentioned his family whining --
I hadn't heard anything about it. His sacrifice was not worth more than others who died. I honor his service, while despising the war than made it possible.

OTOH, at least he died in Afghanistan, going after Bin Laden, rather than in Iraq, for *'s lies.

4. Friendly fire response?
Perhaps the family is upset that he was killed by friendly fire...not as heroic as the stories that orginally surfaced:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4815441/

U.S. military spokesman Lt. Col. Matthew Beevers said Saturday that Tillman was killed Thursday night in a firefight at about 7 p.m. on a road near Sperah, about 25 miles southwest of a U.S. base at Khost.

After coming under fire, Tillman’s patrol got out of their vehicles and gave chase, moving toward the spot of the ambush. Beevers said the fighting was “sustained” and lasted 15-20 minutes.

Beevers said Tillman was killed by enemy fire, but he had no information about what type of weapons were involved in the assault, or whether he died instantly.

Today's Washington Post: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A35717-2004Dec4.html

"I could hear the pain in his voice," recalled the young Ranger who was near him. Tillman kept calling out that he was a friendly, and he shouted, "I am Pat Tillman, damn it!" His comrade recalled: "He said this over and over again until he stopped."

Myths shaped Pat Tillman's reputation, and mystery shrouded his death. A long-haired, fierce-hitting defensive back with the Arizona Cardinals of the National Football League, he turned away a $3.6 million contract after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks to volunteer for the war on terrorism, ultimately giving his life in combat in Taliban-infested southeastern Afghanistan.
