Anyone see Harry Reid on Timmy's MTP?
Ugh.....he's a Tom Daschle clone if I've ever seen one, only I think he's going to be worse. Geesus,I'm ready to leave the democratic party. It's going too far to the right for my own personal taste. :puke:

4. If I didn't know who he was.......
and didn't see him, like I might have been in another room.....I would have thought he was a repuke talking. I have no use for him. And he IS boring. It's sad to see these kind of folks speaking for us LIBERALS. They are not speaking what we truly believe in and they are taking this party right of center. Where are the true liberal politicians...... and who can speak for us liberals? The ones who have spoke up for us have been shut up. It's sickening.

12. His job isn't to speak for 'liberals'
Edited on Sun Dec-05-04 05:38 PM by Freddie Stubbs
His job is to speak for the Democratic Senators. That includes liberals like Ted Kennedy and Russ Feingold, and moderates like Joe Lieberman and Ken Salazar.

2. its not a question of going too far to the right
Edited on Sun Dec-05-04 12:04 PM by Magic Rat
its going to far into the land of sominex. Reid puts me to sleep, and he makes Daschle look like Jesse Ventura.

I mean, its a minor quibble since nobody votes or identifies themselves with a party based on who the minority or majority leader is.

But still, this guy is as thrilling as beige wallpaper.

3. The democratic party is no more
until they go back to their progressive roots, as far as I am concerned screw them!

There was NO EXCUSE for all those democratic senators to vote for the 385 billion dollar budget which reduces pell grants, attacks abortion, and has a tremendous amount of pork

The democrats in the first term of * did not stand up against him, and the cowards are doing the same thing

Hillary was one of the senators who voted for this budget. Because of that I WILL NEVER VOTE FOR HER IF SHE BECOMES THE nominee in 2008

6. My Once A Week Post/Rant...LOL
Right now the blame and denial games go on...and we're drifting farther apart not closer together and that doesn't bode well for 2006. Right now Reid and Pelosi have almost no cards to play with and will be lucky to hold their own ranks in order to act as any form of an opposition. I'm still waiting to hear from those who want to start working on turning the tide in local races...rebuild the party from the grassroots up and bring the important Democratic/Progressive messages back into the mainstream.

Democrats, especially the moderates, who are our last line of defense in the "Purple" areas (a term people are ignoring, but is where the next elections will be won & lost) are torn between a right wing that intimidates on a grand scale and a left wing that splintered into their own special interests and causes...playing their own holier than thou game that just divides Democrats further.

Time is ticking and our hand isn't getting any stronger.

Cheers

8. Your Post Lost Me - Could You Clarify This Moderate Vs Left
Concept.

Seems to me that many are arguing that going to moderate is what lost us the last election because the electorate could not distinguish us from the Republicans.

9. My Point Is You Have To Build A Local Base To Have A National One
That base has crumbled and isn't one based on ideologies or special interests other than what sells in that area and what candidates best represent our core values that can help in starting to build a party from the very ground up. Yep, IMHO, this party has disintegrated that far.

Further, without a strong local base, a national voice is all but impossible as with no majorities in the House or Senate, there's no platform to put up any real opposition to the Repugnicans. Thus all the ideals we stand for...equal rights, social justice and economic equity are useless as we have zero pot to piss in.

Before we can even think about which "core values" are of most importance (and that's a lot of the stuff I see posted around here), one needs a strong core, and that means adjusting tactics to build a solid party base...and that varies from state to state, region to region. Once that base is built, then you can start running strong Congressional and Senate races and start having a voice at the table.

Moderate on the local level means winning elections, which is the very first step...ideals are great in promoting on a nation level. Problem is too much top down thinking and not enough bottom up.

If that's confusing, then you're part of the cause, not the cure and my point is proven.

Cheers.

11. Yes - It Is Still Confusing - Further Criticizing Others Without Knowing
Them is fraught with peril.

I have been actively involved in grass roots democratic politics for the last two years.

What I observe most is an unwillingness to commit to the long-term activities needed to keep a local party machine going.

Instead what I see is episodic participation focused mainly around campaigns.

All the bread and butter work that needs to happen between campaigns no one wants to do.

If you have ideas here they would be most useful.

13. Sadly A Lot Have Been Alienated
I've worked on Democratic campaigns since before I could vote and this past year spend thousands of my own dollars and hundreds of hours. The results included helping one of the few Democratic house pick-ups in the country...taking a seat in a "Purple" area. When I attempted to discuss this with others here, or to suggest this party needs serious work on the grassroots level, I'm called every name in the books from many who I helped with my emotional and financial support.

There are lots of good ideas, but Democratic ideals are good, just there's no interest right now in being honest about where things stand. It's so much easier to hold pity parties.

The DNC, DLC and DFA are like circular firing squads, and yes, there's no place for those of us with contrary views to even express them, yet suggest constructive alternatives that could help achieve a lot of our long-term goals.

Truthfully, I'm very burned and not about to get kicked in the head again.

Cheers!

15. I Am Not Trying To Kick You In The Head
I volunteered over 1000 hours of my time to the Martin Frost campaign this this last cycle.

I also worked with a fledgling Dallas For Kerry effort.

Prior to that I participated in a Progressive caucus trying to bring bread and butter ideals back to the party.

I have been kicked in the head as well.

I am merely looking for new ideas.
