Fundie Sunday
Geez, I hate working on Sunday. Everybody runs out to eat after church and they leave their kindness at the altar. A dollar a holler and maybe a bible tract to taunt the godless servers.

I had one guy last week who came in with a huge group. I wandered up to make the usual small talk "Hi How are you" He said, "I am blessed. The lord has blessed me today. Has he blessed you today?" I damn near chipped a tooth biting my tongue to keep from telling him how very blessed I was.

Then, he offered the kicker, "How do you like having to work on Sunday?" Well someone has to feed the holy hogs for Jesus.

Today another big group including a 4 and 5 year old with their black "God's Army" t-shirts on. That really creeped me out. On the back it said "Fighting for souls at so and so church." It's like Hitler's youth.

It gets weirder and weirder.

1. You have my sympathies
Swallowing their hypocrisy is harder than swallowing whatever swill your employer can dish up.

3. I remember at the boys and girls club....
That I worked at The parents of one of the kids that attended put me in for prayer requests at their church due to my Kerry/Edwards Sticker. I only know that cause one of the kids brought me a church brochure and informed me why the parents did this.

2. I hated working Sundays
These people would leave those stupid cards that said "Tip--God loves you" I tried to pay my rent with them but the landlord wouldn't take 'em.

But hey, at least the crazy RR nut was concerned about your blessings, if only in word. But in deed? Well, we can't get them all, can we?

4. I feel your pain
Back in high school I had a job at a pizza place, and every Sunday, a huge church group would come through. I noticed consistently they had the loudest, most obnoxious children, left the largest messes, and whined the loudest about the service.

5. "Well someone has to feed the holy hogs for Jesus." How true
It's crazy how they ask YOU what you think of working on Sunday BUT they are participants in the scheme also... geez, do they ever think about what they're saying?

Yes, I'm particularly disgusted and averse to the brainwashing of children in these sects.

6. In reference to your statement about the "God's Army" T-Shirts...
There is a fundamentalist group in my area which gave itself the name: People of Worship. They wear t-shirts, hoodies, etc. which highlight the letters POW. As a veteran, to have these fundies refer to themselves as POWs really pisses me off to no end.

16. It's amazing how militaristic these fundamentalist groups are.
I recall seeing a group of them with t-shirts stating that they were members of "S.W.A.T. - Spiritual Warfare Action Team".

25. Thanks for the info
Yes, this is some frightening stuff! I find it amazing that these people feel they are the ones under attack, when the reverse is the truth. :scared:

I currently work in the town where the Bakker's ran their con operation and many of their followers are still here. Hopefully, I will be moving back to a "blue" area of SC in the near future. Yes, believe it or not, there are "blue" areas of SC.

Keep up the fight and the vigil!

7. I just wonder what they are telling these kids
God's Army, indeed.

When I grew up learning about Jesus, I never quite viewed him as Rambo.

10. "I never quite viewed him as Rambo"
That must mean you've never encoutered MoPaul's (a DU poster and artist) version of "Extreme Jesus". I generally find MP's humor to be tactless, but I had to admit that Extreme Jesus was extremely funny

Is Buddy Jesus a MoPaul production? As I mentioned, I'm not a big fan of MP, but he does sometime come up with some good stuff.

31. I knew some fundies who loved Warrior Jesus
Their favorite part of the Bible were the sections in the Old Testament where God showed up and kicked everyone's ass. They didn't really think much of the whole JEsus-as-peacemaker thing.

The two were also vicious mysoginists and hated modernity. One was an electrical engineer who believed all of modern physics (quantum mech, etc) was total bullshit - oh, the irony.

What a dick.

Next time ask him if he would like his meal prepared by Satanists or Christians? "Since people as pious as you can't work, all we can do is hire heathens to work on the Sabath."

15. instead of biting your tongue
maybe you should have told him that you feel very blessed to live in a country where you are still free to practice your religion as you see fit or not at all.

And then when he asked how you felt working on Sunday maybe you should have asked him who would be serving his meal nobody worked on Sunday.

Of course, if it had been me, given that I'm Jewish, I would have said that working on Sunday was fine because it was much better than working on the Sabbath. ;-)

23. I have a whole list of things I should have said
All the things I should not say were affecting my ability to say much of anything. Mainly it pissed me off to want to say something and not be able to because I'm not ready to lose this meaningless job yet.

Self-condemnation clouded my ability for a snappy comeback.

I certainly understand biting your tongue to keep a job and keep food on the table.

Don't beat yourself up. Sometimes I wish I had your level of restraint. My snappy comebacks get me into a lot of trouble.

offended by people who work on Sundays stayed home after church maybe other people who wait on them wouldn't be needed to work Sundays. }(

22. I totally agree
I never purchase anything on Sunday for that reason, other than occasional gas, if it's unavoidable. I can't understand people who read the bible, seem to believe the bible, and still go out to Sunday Brunch. But to each their own I suppose.

27. that God's Army shit is truly scary
I grew up in a church that was all "take care of the poor and be nice to people". Now it seems like the majority of religion is about bloodlust and war. "America, Fuck Yeah."
