boycot clearchannel
Edited on Mon Dec-06-04 12:45 PM by stubertmcfly
that's it. i have been fed up with these right-wing assholes for a long time. mostly becasue they not only play shitty music but that they play the same shitty music 90 times per day. plus this billboard thing and adopting FOX "news" as their source for "news". i have had it. i am no longer listening to any clearchannel stations. period. i'm done.

and, in order to help seal the deal, i am writing them to let them know of my decision. feel free to join me. your ears will thank you:

randypalmer@clearchannel.com (Randy Palmer: investor relations)
http://www.clearchannel.com/Corporate/Email.aspx?RoutingID=1 (public relations webform)
lisacdollinger@clearchannel.com (Lisa Dollinger: external communications)
omarvthompson@clearchannel.com (Omar Thompson: radio)
Outdoorcontact@clearchannel.com (Outdoor division)
ericherrera@clearchannel.com (Eric Herrera: entertainment)
cctvinfo@clearchannel.com (television division)

they have gotten away with this for long enough. i will no longer support that which supports the right-wing of this political system.

have a clearchannel-free day.

3. Can't do it...
Clearchannel is the parent of the local station that airs Air America Radio.

...of course their RW Hate Machine station is a nice clear FM channel with a strong signal while AAR airs on a weak static-filled AM band...

7. That's what I find puzzling? Why would Clearchannel ...
want to own AAR, unless it plans to shut it down, or 're-shape' (or replace) its shows, or by first drawing in Liberal audience, and then 'shaping' them to Repug agenda.

I already noticed that ABC News/Peter Jennings, and Wall Street Journal run ads on AAR. What's up?

9. CC doesn't "own" AAR...
... I think they just pick up the programming to get ad revenue from reality-based folks who would otherwise boycott CC stations...

I still hate that the RW screamers are on FM and I gotta go to AM to get AAR.

...but I'd rather hear every 3rd word of Frankin than anything laura ingram has to say...

4. All the stations taken over by them
suck so bad.

When I found out their CEO, Lowry Mays, was good buddies with the nazi shrubito and encouraged the "Patriot Rallies" after Natalie Maines of the Dixie Chicks shot her mouth off, I said, "That's it." It's CDs, Pacifica, and a couple of non-CC stations in all of the Houston market for me. Fuckem all. Maybe I will get XM for Christmas.

FM sucks so bad now, but I remember the days when you heard about 5 minutes of advertising per hour of great freaking music. Lowry Mays has said over and over that it's all about selling advertising. Dude, I don't listen and I ain't buying.

Thanks for the links. I will send out some emails.

Bush Connections
"The vice chairman of Clear Channel is Tom Hicks, whose name may be familiar to readers of this column. When Mr. Bush was governor of Texas, Mr. Hicks was chairman of the University of Texas Investment Management Company, called Utimco, and Clear Channel's chairman, Lowry Mays, was on its board. Under Mr. Hicks, Utimco placed much of the university's endowment under the management of companies with strong Republican Party or Bush family ties. In 1998 Mr. Hicks purchased the Texas Rangers in a deal that made Mr. Bush a multimillionaire." <6> (http://www.nytimes.com/2003/03/25/opinion/25KRUG.html?pagewanted=print),

"In addition, Hicks steered a controversial scheme to use the University of Texas' $13 billion endowment for private investment. Among the beneficiaries were the Carlyle Group, the arms investment firm tied to both George Bush Snr and the bin Laden family, and George W Bush's controversial Harken Oil drilling project in Bahrain."<7> (http://www.observer.co.uk/Print/0,3858,4651621,00.html)

Data released by the Center for Responsive Politics in early 2004 revealed that Clear Channel executives donated $42,200 to Bush compared to $1,750 to Democrat Presidental candidate John Kerry. Clear Channel's (political action committee) contributed 77% of their $334,501 in federal contributions to Republicans. <8> (http://www.usatoday.com/news/politicselections/2004-03-23-clear_x.htm)

6. cancel all cable media and switch to the INTERNET
we can build our own news distribution network just like public radio did in it's early days though now has been infiltrated and corrupted by big biz.

i am already trying my hand at it...

8. Clear Channel's financial statements
show $7 billion of $28 billion in total assets in "Goodwill",. This means that they think their "good name" is worth $7 billion in assets to the company. They also show another $13 billion in "intangible assets" which is actually (the way I understand it) tied to the general change over in accounting rules for goodwill. All this is against total assets of $28 billion. So we know that fully 25% of CCU's "assets" are tied to how much they think people like them. If you include the intangible assets they think their self-image is worth the figure comes to almost 75%. So it can be said that almost 75% of the worth of Clear Channel is how important they think they are. There's little else there for them. Of course, under liabilities, they show no "negative goodwill". If you back out these non-monetary assets like "intangible assets" and goodwill against total liabilities, you end up with a net worth of Clear Channel around -$6 billion. In other words, if they had to cash everything out and pay everything off, they'd be $6 billion in the hole. They're pure, down and dirty debt/equity ration is .90.

I'm amazed that their stock doesn't keep falling. Their self-worth is way over-inflated.
