Most Americans believe the virgin birth is literally true,
a Newsweek poll finds.

Seventy-nine percent of Americans believe that, as the Bible says, Jesus Christ was born of the Virgin Mary, without a human father, according to a new NEWSWEEK poll on beliefs about Jesus.

Sixty-two percent say they favor teaching creation science in addition to evolution in public schools; 26 percent oppose such teaching, the poll shows. Forty-three percent favor teaching creation science instead of evolution in public schools; 40 percent oppose the idea.

62% favor teaching creation science, (Which is a oxymoron) and 43% favor teaching creation INSTEAD of evolution.

This country is out of it's mind. Either that or Newsweek only polled the nut jobs that voted for Bush.

2. I'd blame it on people's inability to think for themselves...
but many of them have college degrees and would otherwise be considered intelligent. What the hell is going on? This many people really have that much contempt for science? Ugh... unbelievable.

3. I think we are kidding ourselves that mainstream xstianity in the US...
....is a benign and benevolent entity.

(And..yawn...yes I know that not ALL christians are of the ilk mentioned in this article so let's not go there.)

When we have 62 percent of respondents supporting the teaching of cultish psuedo-scientific nonsense, then I don't think we can reasonbly assume that mainstream Christianity is good for this country.

4. A good example of the sorts of bothersome distractions of Christianity
Edited on Mon Dec-06-04 03:49 PM by indigobusiness
which distract and obscure the original message and meaning of Christ's teachings.

The theme was a popular one of the era for man-gods from Egypt to Rome to Babylon.

Whether or not it's true, shouldn't matter as much as it does to Christians.

IMHO

7. I'm locking this thread.
This person was a formerly-banned troll.

(Apparently religion is the new fun trolling topic here.)
