1. hey, it's just politics!
Just because they are on the opposite side doesn't mean they can't put their difference aside and celebrate a Skull & Bones reunion or whatever. Hey, Edwards is even in the Bilderbergers now, he's stepping up!

I hope she stayed away. That would send a message that she was doing things differently, and isn't partying with the enemy.

26. Me too
I can understand perfunctory graciousness at tradition state functions (like politely clapping at the SOTU address). That lends stability to the government over the years, regardless who wins. But hobnobbing with fascists at parties, banquents, and awards affairs where attendance is voluntary is too much. It gives ratification to the agenda of the enemy, and says "hey, these guys aren't all that bad after all."

What kind of a message does that give to those that poured their guts as footsoldiers in the election a month ago. "Sorry, suckers" is all I hear.

You said it, Rockerdem!

How can we expect the half of the American people who are living in the lie or in denial to wake up if our leaders are acting like it's business (or pleasure) as usual.

At some point they've got to stop and say No: No longer will I have anything to do with these fascist traitors!

Those people have gone so far over the line now, that being anywhere they are smacks of complicity.

That dress is not Empire waist, nor is it belted at the waist. They just wrapped the ribbon around wherever it would fit.

6. It was a national bipartisan celebration
People were being honored. You show up to honor them regardless. Bush didn't necessarily agree with the thoughts of everyone being honored, but as the president, he showed up and did it out of respect. Kerry and Edwards are senators and showed up as well.

12. Whores for awards

???

Warren Freaking Beatty???

President Bush and his wife, Laura, sat with the honorees while celebrities toasted and roasted the winners of the nation's highest achievement for the arts. Bush's defeated Democratic rival, Sen. John Kerry, and his wife, Teresa Heinz Kerry, also attended the event.

The irony of a conservative president toasting an openly gay, anti-war rock star (John) and a liberal actor with political aspirations (Beatty) was not lost on the presenters.

Robert Downey Jr. jokingly referred to the flamboyant John as "the other first lady."

53. It was the Kennedy Arts gala. That's like saying...
the artists, many of whom are Dems, shouldn't go to accept their awards because the President, whose policies they disagree with, is going to attend. We are all Americans, and American politicians and artists have to, on occasion, attend events with people whose policies they disagree with. It happens. And it SHOULD happen. I don't want a situation where no politician ever goes to any function or hearing where someone who he doesn't like will be there. That's silly. And you can't live a life or run a country that way.

Oh, maybe because she uses the same designer as her mother in law who is 23809423790240398423089 years old.

There are, in fact, two very similar gowns. The one with the ribbon (blue, or green?) I can't find, but here is another one.

I don't think older women should wear bows. One thinks of Sally on the Dick Van Dyke show.

20. Sigh, the first few photos of John & Teresa and of Elizabeth & John, are
what I pictured for January 20th and the inaugural ball photos we would be seeing....

Then I look at the Chimp in Chief and Pickles and I think to myself "How can it be?"

And if I allow myself to have a "People Magazine" moment - WTF is Pickles wearing? It looks like one of those plastic blue ties that you get at the OB GYN office to tie your gown around you while you wait for the Doctor to come back for an exam! (Sorry I couldn't resist - she just does not know how to dress)

36. For God's sake, people; these are the Kennedy Lifetime
Achievement Awards. The Chimp just happens to be the pResident at this time and that's unfortunate, but would you really turn down this award, or not go in support of the people receiving it? I'm sure most, if not all, of these people wish Kerry were sitting where the Chimp is, but to turn down the award or not support the people who receive it wouldn't accomplish anything - do you really think the Chimp would give a shit if you decided not to show up to spite him? Give all of these people a break on this one.

52. Well if you see my post as Dem bashing you are quite sensitive
If they had asked me, I would prefer that Kerry and Edwards appear in Ohio to fight for my vote. Or at the Conyers hearing tomorrow. Or Volusia County. But instead they opted to put on black tie and clap for Bush in his Presidential box. I guess good sportsmanship doesn't mean that much to me in the face of fascism. If it were me I think I would have come down with the flu that night.

I still support Kerry. I'm still sporting his pic. But I'm also still in a rage and I wonder why he isn't.

Also, Laura looks like a Christmas tree, which I thought everyone should see. I guess you are not that into bad fashion.
