CBC Newsworld new series: "Canada and the New American Empire"

This new series premieres Monday at 8pm and 11 pm ET/PT on CBC Newsworld.

A four-part series examining Canada-U.S. relations.

Canada and the New American Empire will take viewers on a journey, examining Canada-U.S. Relations and asking hard and irreverent questions about our potential future EU-style integration.

Does a North Dakota water diversion project threaten life on Lake Winnipeg? How much of an impact will the Mackenzie Valley Oil Pipeline have on Canada's Pacific-Northwest? Will the post-9/11 security state mean detentions, deportations, and "secret trials" for Canadians travelling in the U.S.? What should Canada's hog industry expect, given the recent imposition of a 14% U.S. trade tariff on hog imports?

What does all this mean for the future of the Canadian economy?

The CBC's choice of title is very significant. "Empire" indeed.

On edit: Wow, the opening. Cutesy animated symbols of Canada, a giant moose, wide open spaces -- contrasted to American nuclear power plants, smokestacks, crowded cities, and a presidential helicopter carrying the word "American."
