I attended the Monday presentation. The hall was packed. Aidan is 23 years old, lived overseas for 8 years (his dad was a diplomat) and he is a practicing buddhist and recently was approved as a C.O. (Conciencious Objection). I met him at the New College Edwards/Cheney televised debate and convinced him to speak out against the conditions in Iraq.
The slides he presented were gruesome.

Tuesday, December 7th, 7pm - REBELS WITH A CAUSE. The documentary "Rebels With A Cause" is told through the eyes of the Students for a Democratic Society (SDS). Begun in 1960 with a handful of members and high ideals, SDS became a nationally powerful antiwar organization with over 100,000 members. But in 1970 the group began to disintegrate amidst internal conflict and government counterintelligence crackdowns. In the aftermath, some went militant as the ill-fated Weather Underground; others channeled their activism through prominent careers as journalists, politicians, and professors. Come and hear their story. "It isn't the rebels who cause the troubles of the world, it's the troubles that cause the rebels." - Carl Oglesby, SDS
Tuesday, December 14th, 7pm - Documentary “Guns and Greed”, Rarely seen footage in this documentary shows how the combat-ready SOA graduates use their guns to protect the greed of large corporations and world financial institutions. Acting on their own or under orders from their governments, the soldiers target labor organizers, human rights advocates, educators, religious leaders and others who speak out against sweatshops and enterprises of greed that exploit the country's people and resources. SOA: Guns & Greed presents powerful statements from students, labor leaders, veterans and church people involved in nonviolent protests to close the School of the Americas. Documentary will be followed by a discussion from four local activists, including Faith Fippenger and Don Thompson, that attended the Nov. protest against the School of the America’s.
