Dubuque Schools Consider Fingerprinting Students
Heard this on the local news tonight... had to go look it up to make sure I heard what I thought I heard.

<snip>

Dubuque Community School's Food Service Manager Mike Wolfe said, "A student could be put in the system as a kindergartner and it stays with them for the next 12 or 13 years."

Mary Ann Cornell helps students through the lunch line at Hoover Elementary School each day. She says she hasn't seen any problems with students forgetting their cards. "It would probably be faster and easier not necessarily necessary i guess but it would be nice," said Cornell.

If a student forgets their lunch card they are not turned away from a meal but looking up their name in the computer system slows the process.

When I combine this idea with the New Freedom Initiative for Mental Health, I shudder.

1. They want to fingerprint kids for a more efficient lunch line??
How frigging bizarre!

(And yes, along with the mental health initiative, this is truly terrifying.)

2. Great way to spend their limited budgets.
Never mind updating text books, supplying teachers with the needed materials for students so they do not have to buy them themselves, bringing back foreign languages or music classes, etc.

What we really need is mandatory fingerprinting and psychological testing for every student!

Unbelievable.
