Methinks DU should have an Artists Group.
I know there's a Graphic Artist Group as well as a Photography Group, now how about a place for the more physical, visual arts, you know painting, sculpture, print making, ceramics--whatever!

I tried drumming up a little support for this idea in the Lounge

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=105x2156608

but the thread seemed to get lost among some of the silliness down there, so I thought I'd post it here.

You know the procedure by now: Ten approving nod from posters with stars and a mission statement.

I know there must be a few more creative folks out there, so come out, come out where ever you are!

3. That second picture is great...
reminds me of myself at that age facing my dreaded nemesis "the pea". My mom made me sit after lunch one day till I ate my peas. Stubborn little me was still sitting there at suppertime staring down a couple of tablespoonfuls of cold peas. I darned near choked on those things. Funny thing is that peas are now one of my favorite veggies.

the first one was done after a three day bender...it is a grotesque version of myself, to express the horror of falling off the wagon....

been sober since...although it is scary

8. Brundle_Fly, that one of you reminds me of my dad
when he'd come off of a bender. That is amazing.

I like the second one better but only because it doesn't bring back sad memories. :)

Really imaginative. I could never learn to like using oil, myself. I like how the second one tells a story in one frame.

Big face and small features. Except for the mouth.

Caricatures are so much fun to do. You usually know when you're successful when fewer people say "who's that"?

23. Looks like we've got
almost enough people to get the group started.

We still need a mission statement though...

Something simple like...

"The DU artists group is for artists of all types to discuss and appreciate the visual arts."

Sound good?
