Work hard to earn the honor of belong to a Union. Remember all your brothers who had to die so you could have the benefits you enjoy. Produce quality work for your company so it turns a profit, and wear the union badge with pride.

The mark of excellence should be the biggest difference between union and non-union labor!!!!

UFCW 555, here.
I'm leaving the grocery industry to become a teacher & will take a hefty cut in pay and benefits to do so. UFCW is a fairly strong union that's not afraid to fight.

They busted their ass to get that contract, that means you have to fulfill your end of it.
Congrats, please get involved in the local! :bounce:

i'm a full time student right now (even part time workers get unionized) so my time is limited, but i want to help out this summer when i have more time.
at the least, i signed up to have part of my paycheck every month used for political purposes for the union.

Bust your ass & hold up your end of the bargain and your local will be there when you need them! After taking a psych degree, I went back into the Sheet Metal Workers (construction union). I'm now very comfortably retired. No regrets here! (on edit) Time to update your avatar!

from a former IATSE #44 member. Any union is only as good as it's members demand it to be. Go to meetings when you can. Size up the BA, etc. - make sure they're doing their job -and if they're not - run for office yourself!

14. I've had two union jobs and while ... |
|
.. they still have their place in some industries they were by far the most dead end jobs I ever had.
I was actually talked to, twice, and then reprimanded for working too hard and making some of the other sacks of shit that were on my shift look bad.
I don't mean to sound like a sour prick because I'm not. Congrats and hope you have a good experience.

18. The only people who say union jobs are bad are management. |
|
I was a union member since 1979, until I retired and, yes, they certainly do take care of you. The only thing is when you have a real slacker in the union and the company can't get rid of them, but for the most part unions are great.

GO Union ! ....
A quick quote from Adam Smith ....
"We rarely hear, it has been said, of the combinations of masters, though frequently of those of workmen. But whoever imagines, upon this account, that masters rarely combine, is as ignorant of the world as of the subject. Masters are always and everywhere in a sort of tacit, but constant and uniform combination, not to raise the wages of labor above their actual price." -- Adam Smith, Wealth Of Nations
