He is definitely in Star Trek mode.

Hopefully, we are sending him to Mars.

One of Rummy's first directives was to strip the CinC designation from all regional commanders in the military. There's only one Commander in Chief, no one else is worthy of the title.

31. Fascist!
Though this is not a military uniform, it resembles one. I can see Pinochet or Quadaffi wearing something very similar. The scary thing is these things are not accidents: Bush's hijacking of religious language, his militarism -- accidents don't happen in politics. And he has been successful in his fascist pose (well, close enough to successful so that, when elections are stolen, riots don't start on the White House lawn). What does this say about the vast citizenry of the United States? What has become of us?

The illusion of freedom in America will continue as long as it's profitable to continue the illusion. At the point where the illusion becomes too expensive to maintain, they will just take down the scenery, they will pull back the curtains, they will move the tables and chairs out of the way, and you will see the brick wall at the back of the theatre.
    --- Frank Zappa, 1977

I'm the commander... see, I don't need to explain. I do not need to explain why I say things. That's the interesting thing about being the president. Maybe somebody needs to explain to me why they say something, but I don't feel like I owe anybody an explanation."
--- Gee Dubya Bush in Bob Woodward's BUSH AT WAR

The US has about 50% of the world’s wealth but only 6.3% of its population. In this situation we cannot fail to be the object of envy and resentment. Our real task in the coming period is to devise a pattern of relationships which will permit us to maintain this position of disparity without positive detriment to our national security. To do so, we will have to dispense with all sentimentality and day-dreaming, and our attention will have to be concentrated everywhere on our immediate national objectives.

We need not deceive ourselves that we can afford the luxury of altruism and world benefaction. We should cease talks about such vague and unreal objectives as human rights and raising of living standards and democratization. The day is not far off when we are going to have to deal in straight power concepts. The less we are then hampered by idealistic slogans, the better.
    --- George Kennan, PPS 23, 1948.

The people who cast the votes don’t decide an election, the people who count the votes do.
    --- Joseph Stalin

Dear Lord, what has become of my country?

A large crowd of Marines clad in tan-and-green camouflage uniforms bellowed "oo-rah," as Bush, who donned a tan military-style jacket with epaulets, thanked U.S. forces. He said the bravery and sacrifice of the troops has made America safer.

69. Here's the look he's trying to copy:
* has no ribbons, so he gets a nametag in the same position that takes up the same space. No pockets, so he gets a big "Presidential seal" iron-on to keep his right side "busy", etc.

The real guy would slap his ass all the way back to his mamma's skirts.

84. Note That Patton...
...a true War Hero...a real MAN - Need not wear each and every ribbon and medal he has earned.

Patton is wearing his rank, the number of years he has served and probably 1/10th the medals he could have worn. He is sure of himself and does not need to prove anything to anyone.

This was a real American hero.

80. I Got Mine Today!
It's the new uniform. All good little Americans are urged to be wearing one when Jesus comes back!

Only problem is mine is black and has a funny little W with a slash through it.

My daughter came up with that one. Bush has nothing on Austin Powers, but I think he secretly identifies with him. Poor Pickles.
