I just saw the United Church of Christ commercial on Discovery Channel
We gotta support The Discovery Networks. That was AWESOME!

Have any of you seen the UCC commercials?

Why would the networks ban that particular spot?

11. Clamp Down on What, Though?
The stereotypes were so indirect I hardly noticed them.

The only thing I could think would offend people was the idea that the Church of Christ depicted other churches as turning people away. Maybe that's what it was really about.

16. The RR are *'s friends furthermore there are the UCC commercials with Gays
BushCo doesn't want the sexual orientation issue to look like what it is...discrimination and hatred. That would be bad for BushCo.

17. There are "Queer Eye" ads that have gays too.
NBC doesn't seem to have a problem with that.

4. Liberals Christians - no respect from anyone
First they complaing that the liberal Christians aren't "making a stand" against the fundies - and when they do - they won't even let them BUY TV time. You just can win with some people.

23. your'e talking about two seperate groups
I for one do want to see the Liberal Christrians take a more pro-active stand. They as a group do need to stand up for thier beleifs.

But I am hardly against then showing this ad. In fact. I think it's about time.

The religouse right and the staus Quo, on the other hand, are a different story.

Please don't goup us all together. I am sure you don't like it when people talk as if the Religouse Right represents Christianity.

5. The UCC Commercial is fantastic!
You can view the United Church of Christ ad online at:

They want people to "Speak out to NBC & CBS" - the stations that refused to air their ad. You'll find more info at their website.

:pals:

12. Just watched it. It looked extremely innoccuous to me.
I can't believe it would be treated as controversial, especially in light of what gets shown regularly on those same stations.

Bush's America is too much for me to figure out.

13. no kidding! It's as G-rated as you can get!
The idea that this commerical would be "controversial" to anyone is complete and utter nonsense. My *Grandmother* wouldn't be offended my this ad, and you can't get any more old fashioned than that.

It breaks my heart personally, too, since that was the church my parents belonged to when I was a little girl.

But to get beyond the self-centeredness, the ramifications of this are unbelievable (see link).

15. Come on, gang ... if everyone in America saw that ad...
too many people would start thinking...and some might try a progressive church...the SBC might lose a few million...and that could interfere with their bigotry and hatred and discrimination funding...

19. Is there a link where I could see the ad?
Since I don't watch much TV.

btw, the History Channel seems to be pretty liberal. Weren't they the channel that advertised on Air America Radio?
