Just Watched Nightline - Afghani Women Are Doomed
Truly sad. The Afghan Supreme Court are made up of male mullahs.

The only woman at Karzai's swearing in was Lynn Cheney.

Life expectancy for women is the age of 40. Women can now show their faces and drive IF they have approval by the males in the family. Marriages are still for the most part forced and arranged.

These women are the "lucky" ones who live in the cities controlled by Karzai. Even these "lucky" ones commit suicide at a high rate.

Bush bragged about how He liberated them today to the troops in California.

1. There was a beautiful documentary on PBS recently.
About an Afghani woman who was allowed to go into the city to study photography. It showed her travelling across Afghanistan on all modes of transportation. The people are beautiful people. It was a wonderful thing to witness. I hope to see it again soon.

It's a dangerous place. But the average people have a lot of heart and innocence.

6. This is the place this admin SHOULD have
concentrated on. I agree, the Afghani people are physically beautiful. And they want democracy, unlike Iraqis where democracy has been forced upon. Obviously, a lot of heartache has ensued.

12. A good movie that deals with Afghanistan...
is Kandahar. Granted it was filmed before the U.S. invasion, but from what it sounds like, things haven't changed much. It's a pretty depressing flick though, since it depicts a world without hope.

2. Thank you for sharing Erika. This stuff breaks my heart.
Abuse is like a virus and/or chain reaction that just spreads from the top down to the bottom.

We or another imperialistic nation oppress the Afghans, the Afghans oppress their women and the oppression and abuse continues to ignite more oppression and abuse.

7. You're Welcome. It also breaks my heart.
It infuriates me that Bush brags about a lie to our troops.

4. If only they could be given hope
Yet another crime that Bush and his cronies have committed, creating false hopes in the hearts of those who needed it most.

13. Mavis Leno (Jay's wife) is strangely silent on the plight of post-Taliban
women in Afghanistan. She was voceriferous before this country invaded and now her silence can be interpreted as lack of dissent. Either the principle of subjugating women is universally immoral and wrong or it is not. The people in charge is irrelevant if the status of women remains the same.
