wtf? moonie times commentary: "Is the Bush administration certifiable?"
Edited on Wed Dec-08-04 07:01 AM by leftchick
omg... I never thought I would read something like this in their rag! It makes too much sense! Anyone know this fellow Paul Roberts? This is an excellent contrast to the busholini* appearance yesterday at Pendleton.

~snip~
Has President Bush lost his grip on reality? By Paul Craig Roberts

In his Dec. 1 speech in Halifax, Nova Scotia, President Bush again declared his intention to pre-emptively attack "enemies who plot in secret and set out to murder the innocent and the unsuspecting." Freedom from terrorism, Bush declared, will come only through pre-emptive war against enemies of democracy.

How does Bush know who and where these secret enemies are? How many more times will his guesses be wrong, like he was about Iraq?

What world does Bush live in? The United States cannot control Iraq, much less battle the rest of the Muslim world and beyond. While Bush threatened the world with U.S. aggression, headlines revealed the futility of pre-emptively invading countries: "Pentagon to Boost Iraq Force by 12,000," "U.S. Death Toll in Iraq at Highest Monthly Level," "Wounded Disabled Soldiers Kept on Active Duty."

We are getting out butts kicked in Iraq, and Bush wants to invade more countries? It is clear as day that we do not have enough troops to deal with Iraq. The 12,000 additional troops "to improve security" are being acquired by extending the combat tours of troops already on duty in Iraq. More U.S. soldiers were killed in Iraq in November than in any previous month. The United States is so hard up for troops that the Pentagon is deploying soldiers who have lost arms and legs in combat. On Dec. 1, The Washington Post reported: "U.S. armed forces have recently announced new efforts to keep seriously wounded or disabled soldiers on active duty."

... much more!

1. Sanity in the Washington Times!
But will this be picked up by any of the networks? Remember, a lot, if not a majority, of Bush's supporters don't read.....

We need to find out what combination of medication they're taking that is finally working for them and put it in the city water supply.

10. "In Iraq Our Soldiers Are Not Fighting Terrorists"!!!
I am dumbfounded!!! :wow:

~snip~
Someone needs to tell Bush that terrorists are stateless and that invading states creates insurgencies. In Iraq, our soldiers are not fighting terrorists. They are fighting an insurgency that Bush created by invading Iraq. Bush's pre-emptive wars are a good way to depopulate the United States and bankrupt our country.

This needs to be posted in freeperville! Any takers?

7. Slowly but surely the media chains will be cut through. The reporters
with a conscience are starting to speak. I think the so called "leak" from the CIA in Baghdad regarding this war continuing to crumble, that the media reported on yesterday, is starting to give reporters some guts.

13. woopsies! He even says the "D" word!

Why was Bush in Nova Scotia advocating pre-emptive invasion unless Bush has other Middle Eastern countries targeted? Iran and Syria are the only two remaining Middle Eastern countries that are not ruled by U.S. puppets.
Lacking sufficient military forces to successfully occupy Iraq, how is Bush going to engage in pre-emptive wars against Iran and Syria without bringing back the draft? If eight U.S. divisions can't do the job in Iraq, 16 U.S. divisions won't be enough for Iran. Defeating standing armies is a different game from occupying a hostile country. The U.S. military is good at the former, not at the latter.

15. Glitch in the Matrix?
Go figure!

Maybe Moon wants to pre-empt a Hitler-style turn around action on him later now that the writing is clearly on the Fascist wall?

I do account for the potential that writers are given some lee-way and can act on their own in some cases. It is hard to ascertain just how much of the current media crisis is based on top-down versus collusion by the "journalists".

This does indeed creep me out as well. This is one of THE biggest cheerleading rags for the invasion! This fellow really seems to be trying to quell any notions the US may have to continue the PNAC agenda in the ME. Imagine that!

Bush would serve our country and the rest of the world far better by ceasing his macho aggressive talk and working to create trust and goodwill. Bush is a very foolish man if he thinks America will bear no consequences for his support for Israel's appalling treatment of the Palestinians. Is Bush really as stupid as he sounds? Is the president of the United States so poorly informed that he believes that the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon have nothing to do with U.S. support of Israel's destruction of the Palestinian people?

19. Bush and the Moonies
Subject: Bush and the Moonies

I have a previous post on the subject that is more complete, but as a non-donor, I can't find it on the DU board.

It would be cool if someone could please post the link here. Thanks.

Meanwhile, here is something about Bush and the Moonies that I have in my "Sent Mail" folder:

The Moon's the Limit
http://www.thehumanist.org /
by Anna Kaplan
Anyone can proclaim to be the messiah. It's easy: find a public place, a corner outside a liquor store, a city square, and start preaching the gospel. Provided such individuals are not inciting violence, they're entertaining and, at most, mildly annoying when pestering passersby for change. One can't really argue with people who are convinced they are the next Jesus Christ; they will continue to believe whatever they want to believe.

However, it's highly unlikely that a self-proclaimed messiah will get enough attention to get, say, crowned. Especially not in a ceremony with members of the U.S. Congress present. Especially not in a Senate office building. Right?

It's amazing how much "respect" money can buy these days.

On March 23, 2004, the Reverend Sun Myung Moon, leader of the international Unification Church (whose followers are commonly called "Moonies"), was "crowned" at the Dirksen Senate Office Building in Washington, D.C., regal robes and all. The event created a media stir in June, three months after the fact, but Moon's influence goes much deeper than the duping of a few senators. Using the millions of dollars he's made through thousands of front groups, Moon has infiltrated the U.S. government, media, and even public schools in order to further the agenda of what many critics call a cult religion.

Harvest Moon: Controversial Evangelist Reaps 'Faith-Based' Windfall

At least four operatives of the Rev. Sun Myung Moon's Unification Church are on the federal payroll or getting government grants through President George W. Bush's "Healthy Marriage Initiative" and other "faith-based" programs.

An investigative report by the San Francisco Chronicle found troubling
connections between a government - sponsored "Certified Marriage Education Training Seminar" and Moon front groups. The Oakland seminar was led by Josephine Hauer, a graduate of Moon's Unification Theological Seminary in New York and a "marriage specialist" in the employ of the U.S. Department of Health
and Human Services.

In addition to money from the "Healthy Marriage Initiative," Moon's Free Teens USA has received $475,000 from the Health Resources and Services Administration, a division of HHS, to run abstinence - education programs. Free Teens USA has been criticized for espousing Unification Church tenets, specifically the emphasis on blood lineage.

Moon has also donated $1 million to the George H.W. Bush presidential library and has paid the former president exorbitant speaking fees.

Just before George W. Bush's inauguration, John Ashcroft attended Moon's Inaugural Prayer Luncheon for Unity and Renewal. In December of 2002, James Towey, director of the White House Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives, delivered the keynote address at Moon's three-day God and World Peace summit.

George W. Bush has also appointed a top official for Moon in Washington to head AmeriCorps VISTA.

Earlier this year, a bipartisan group of congressional members attended a coronation event for Moon in the Dirksen Senate Office Building.

These important political connections and the ongoing stream of funding to Moon operatives troubles church-state separation advocates and defenders of good government. Spending tax dollars to educate children and adults in the tenets of a particular religious belief is unconstitutional and unacceptable.

On March 23, *2004*, the Reverend Sun Myung Moon,
leader of the international Unification Church (whose followers
are commonly called “Moonies”), was “crowned” at
the Dirksen Senate Office Building in Washington, D.C.,
regal robes and all.

When *George W. Bush* was sworn into office, Moon’s
Washington Times Foundation threw an Interfaith Inaugural
Prayer Luncheon featuring 1,700 religious leaders,
public officials, and religious right operatives, including
then-Senator John Ashcroft, Representative Davis, Southern
Baptist Convention President James Merritt, televangelist
Jerry Falwell, and Pat Boone.

Some of Moon’s most active political organizers
have gained government positions in *George W. Bush’s*
administration. For example, David Caprara, former leader
of the American Family Coalition (AFC), a faith-based
social action group whose funding comes straight from the
Washington Times Foundation and the Unification Church,
was appointed in 2001 as director of AmeriCorps Vista,
which works with community organizations in low-income
neighborhoods.

Another Unification Church–affiliated individual singled
out for promotion by * Bush* is Josette Shiner, who was
appointed U.S. Deputy Trade Representative in 2003.

Governor George W. Bush sent a congratulatory letter to the Moonie founded "Women's Federation For World Peace" when they held a large banquet in the Governor's state of Texas, according to the October 1996 Unification News.

Moon's groups have taken home grant money from the Bush Administration, which has given his anti-sex missionaries $475,000 in Abstinence-Only dollars to bring Moon's crusade against "free sex" to both black New Jersey high-schoolers and native Africans. The Centers for Disease Control briefly announced that another Moon foundation was the only group qualified to receive another, no-bid grant for HIV education in Africa. Only after a competitor raised objections did
the CDC cancel the grant program entirely. Meanwhile, one of Moon's top political movers, David Caprara, has been appointed by George W. Bush to head AmeriCorps VISTA; and another former church VIP, Josette Shiner, was given a senior trade position.
