Media Monoliths will Grow as People continue to Pay for the Garbage
While I hate the monolithic consolidation of the media, I have to say that the American people are the dopes who keep paying for it.

Cable sucks and actually a lot of radio stations suck.

Why? Because they don't offer a lot of variety without the consumer having to pay through the nose to get a few extra choices.

My fellow Democrats complain all the time about how they can't stand Faux News or any of the "news" channels ...yet they continue to pay for cable just to get a few programs they do like....however that doesn't make it any better...

If 20 million Democrats were to cancel their cable because they are tired of the Pravda broadcasts and the horrible programming...we might actually get a product with a lot of variety.

Personally I would love to see people like Murdoch squirm as the masses stopped paying for his garbage.

1. When the W depression takes full effect people may not ...
be able to pay for cable. Even though I don't have Cable or Satellite TV if I did that would be one of the first things I would consider dropping if I was trying to cut my bills.

2. you may be right...
perhaps a few months without cable news will help to clear cobwebs out of some of their brains.

3. I find it sadly ironic
that so many demand that dems "stand up and fight" while at the same time, refusing to cut their cable.

4. I couldn't agree more...sacrificing cable is too much for some
Hell they don't even have to cut all cable if they don't want to...basic cable in my area only offers local channels and the main networks along with PBS and basic CSPAN...that is what I get for $12 a month...when I used to be paying $42 a month and getting garbage like Fox...now I save $30 bucks a month and to be honest...I am a happier person...

6. you don't really have to cancel your cable
to starve the beast, all you have to do is stop consuming products from advertisers/sponsors for the cable shows - i worked in television, and they don't get their money from subscriptions, I think that 30 or 40 dollars or whatever is just basically a fee that maintains the support personnel for your local station/outlet, the real money for the channels comes from advertisers - so if you want to starve murdoch, stop doing business with the people that advertise on his channel. instead of say, pepsi, drink Jones soda - which is really good, they are a mom & pop soda co. out of BC. it's a little pricey, but definately quality. they don't do corporate advertising either. i have pretty much stopped consuming altogether, i buy dried beans at the supermarket, or organic foods, i'm sick of corporate food that has more chemicals than the battery terminals of my truck.
anyway, that's my 2 cents.
