Can anybody tell me what ever happened to Carlos ? I spent the last year and a half working the campaign, and noticed him missing since my more frequent visits.

btw it's hard to belive there are over 60,000 posters here. I can remember when we hit 5,000 there was major celebration going on !

1. He's banned from Democratic Underground
I've seen him post some at the dailykos weblog since his departure from DU.

That say, I hardly ever agreed with him but I can see why he has beef with Rall, because of the Tilman thing.

6. I remember seeing a thread here on DU
discussing all the unmaskings that took place after Nov. 2. Someone gave a link to another site (wasn't freepland) where he (Carlos) claimed he had been undercover on DU...and was actually a repug.

Didn't come as too much of a surprise to me though.

10. It would be very shocking to me
Carlos acted too moderate to conservative to be in disquise. Plus, he was too objective on his analyses of all the senatorial and gubernatorial races. Freepers usually try to pretend to be one of us. Carlos stuck to his gun too righteously.

He was alright as a poster. Boy, no matter what thread he started, though, there were about ten people that would jump on him like sharks on a wounded freeper. He could say "It's raining in DC," and within ten posts the regulars would have called him a racist, a bigot, a Freeper, and idiot, and worse, and at least one person would have very sincerely said "I hate you."

Poor guy. He wasn't that bad. But even when he was right, some people would attack him.

13. I agree with ya. Jacinto is highly unlikely to have been a mole
Edited on Wed Dec-08-04 08:14 PM by 0rganism
Hell, I disagreed with 90% of what he said, but he usually had some rationale for saying it. He would make a lot of posts that I'd characterize as substantial. If he was a republican mole, he was incredibly decent about it, as he made no attempt to conceal his conservative tendencies.

On a side note, the only actual post-election "outings" I've heard of were more along the lines of conspiracy hardliners and rhetorical extremists, and I still have my doubts about DuctapeFatwa.

18. Jacinto Was Probably To The Left Of Most Americans And Most Registered
Democrats...

DU is a pretty far left place... I come here because I despise Pugs and like the reenforcement....

However, as I said in a earlier post I was blown away by the fact that most DUers were to the left of Gandhi...

To the left of fucken Gandhi....

I took the political compass test and got a -2.69 and -2.83 which put me me precisely where Gandhi was and way to the left of socialist lites like Schroeder and Blair...

However most DUers were pulling -6, -7s and -9s

21. Wow you managed to support a troll and insult most DUers
in the process. I watched Carlo's disrupt for a long time here. He WAS NOT one of us. The last thing we need is more people who think liberalism is a bad word and does nothing but derail conversations with hyperbole and personal attacks.

I am more concerned that we are missing others here like Pilgrim. Why don't we work on getting our allies back on the board not people who hate us and what we stand for. People who would actually consider voting for a Democrat. People who don't admit to infiltrating the board as a freeper.

If you have a beef with a particular point of view or idea why not start a thread or mention it in your rant instead of making sweeping generalized attacks on the sensibilities of most people on the site.

Where did I insult DU....

I said most folks took the political compass test and were to the left of Gandhi...

How is that insulting DU?

on edit- if jacinto was a freeper I wouldn't defend him but there is no evidence to suggest he was a freeper... the fact that he "outed" himself has been debunked... also, it's useful to have dissenting voices in the camp... a point of view tested is a point of view strengthened and as LBJ said I rather have my "enemies inside the tent pissing out than outside the tent pissing in."

Peace

Brian

26. no youre not wrong
he was a loyal democrat and while I disagreed with him on a lot, I shared his yellow dogism. I wasn't surprised I was so far left honestly, I just have some pragmatism, and that pragmatism along with being a yellow dog democrat and a shades of gray view of the world probably makes me seem a little moderate but I am far from it but I dont feel moderates are the enemy, hell I dont even feel conservatives are the enemy, the enemy are people who want to screw the poor, let people be uneducated, help only the wealthy, etc.

27. I Think Jacinto Was A Dean Supporter...
and I also think he said he registered people to vote for free...

I remember one thread where people ripped him because he said folks didn't want to register when he solicited them....

They blamed his tude rather than praise him for his efforts...

I'm not a big fan of his but he certainly doesn't deserve to be called a troll or freeper ... Maybe a pain in the ass....

And he was stupid for ripping Sharpton in a thread that the mods said is only for positive comments...

29. First: that test is cute, but silly
Edited on Wed Dec-08-04 09:05 PM by enki23
what the hell does "to the left of ghandi?" mean? what the fuck?

Second, Carlos was disliked, to some extent, because he was less "to the left" than most here. He was disliked a whole lot MORE, however, because he had an absolutely *infuriating* online persona.

Third, Carlos *liked* being the center of arguments. People who were part of the early DU experience should know that one. Carlos played at being a Martyr like it was going out of style. On a regular basis he would drop some "DU is full of stupid hippies who just don't understand the real world" bomb, and proceed to act shocked, just SHOCKED that people would get pissed off about it. After all, he didn't call YOU a stupid hippie. It was just a global statement about everyone like you. And he would be just *incredibly* hurt that you, and ALL OF DU were so unfair to him.

And around, and around we would go. It was a great deal of fun. Carlos was no innocent.

That said, he wasn't banned because he was annoying. Lots of us are annoying. I don't know what it was he did, but he did something nasty at some point. I can testify to the fact that, back then, it took a lot to get kicked off DU.

33. I Don't Defend Anybody Who Makes Ad Hominem Attacks*...
And I was not saying being to the left of Gandhi was a good or bad thing just a remarkable thing...

I'm not a big fan of the test I was just citing it because so many people here took it and reported the results....

*If Jacinto repeatedly made ad hominem attacks then he deserved to be banned as is anybody who repeatedly makes ad hominem attacks...

That should be the policy of any board or any civilized board...

15. Amnesty at DU
I would sign a petition of DU's admins to absolve jiacinto of his
past sins and let him back. The world's too small to play montagues
and capulets. I seldomly if ever agreed with him, but he was a great
foil and a spirited writer. As well, i suspect he represented the
real gritty truth of democratic life more than others who were spared
his fate.

I fear that fewer and fewer will speak up now with the new bush coup
2004, and thought the counter says 60,000... so much fewer are active,
and this rolling set, should be larger by our hard troubles, not
smaller.

32. Perhaps a specific amnesty
I realize a general amnesty is like wishing every cockroach and mouse
caught in the kitchen traps over the past 4 years reanimated! aahh!
Rather, how about an amnesty where if another DU'er of long standing
asks politely, that the person might get another go.

I would nominate Ray Dubuque (liberals for christ), redeye, jiacinto
and thats about it... the DU'ers i've come to know who are no longer
here for banning reasons.
