17. NO, Jews do NOT view Jesus as a prophet. The prophets are revered |
|
Jesus is not. There is NO mention of Jesus in ANY Jewish worship service or in the prayer books.
Judaism is not Christianity lite, it is its own belief system.

22. I think Jews regard Jesus as a teacher |
|
Edited on Thu Dec-09-04 06:34 AM by Maraya1969
That is my belief also. But I do not think he taught anything but love. None of this "abomination" crap that the evangelicals teach and he never told anyone to worship him. He said to "Follow him" to "Enter the Kingdom of Heaven" or, in Buddhist terms, "enlightenment", in our terms, "Peace".
There were some types of Priests that wrote a lot of the New testament. And they were into RULES that would control the people of their society.
Sound familiar?

25. Jews do not regard Jesus as anything |
|
Jesus is irrelevant to Judaism. No disrespect here, but from a strictly religious standpoint, not a cultural one, Jesus is about as relevant to Judaism as Confucious is to Chrisitanity.
Judaism is NOT THE ABSCENCE OF JESUS. NOR IS IT THE REJECTION OF JESUS. It is a totally distinct religion that existed before Christianty. Jewish beliefs and theology are their own.
WHy can't evnagelicals just get it into their heads that there are people who are perfectly happy without their God?

27. To be fair, the vast majority of Christians don't feel this way |
|
(I don't think.) Saying that Pat Buchanan speaks for Christians is like saying that the Ku Klux Klan speaks for white people.
Our big problem is that the wrong group of Christians have siezed control of the country and they are intent on driving their bigoted message no matter what.
We need to stick together to get through this.

29. I'm well aware of that |

That's why I said "evangelicals". I don't think most Christians feel that way- at least very few of the Christians we know feel that way- I try not to hang with people who want to save me- unless, of course, I'm really in danger!
I just wish people could generally be more tolerant of other's beliefs and not feel the need to impose their particular set of values and virtues on everyone else.

Maybe from a cultural standpoint, Jews regard Jesus's teachings as something to study. But that would be in the same way I regard Buddha. From a religious standpoint, Jesus is nothing in Judaism but a false prophet.
For a place where religion is discussed (and bashed) a lot, there is a stunning amount of misunderstanding here. It's quite simple. Christians believe that Jesus is the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy and is the Messiah. Jews believe that Old Testament prophecy has yet to be achieved and are still waiting on the Messiah. It's not a minor point.

I left a message of complaint, and said that between the anti-semitism last night, and NBC's refusal to air the UCC commercial, it is obvious that NBC is now coming down on the side of hate and bigotry, and because of this I will no longer watch ANY NBC network. I am really about ready to just cancel my Dish and do away with television in my house all together.

:eyes: I remember a few threads here praising Buchanan for ripping into Bush's foreign policy, and the support he was getting. I hesitated replying, 'cause I thought I'd get flamed, but I can't stand Pat "Put the miniguns on the border walls and gun down anyone who tries to enter America" Buchanan. He's a xenophobic anti-semitic bigot, and I hope he rots away, alone, in a dark corner spiting the world and everyone in it.

19. I caught part of this early this morning on the repeat. |
|
I've checked in on that show every morning for a week. Pat Buchanana and that young conservative Indian actress (?), some woman from Women Influencing America--a Jennifer, and that nut job from the Catholic group have been on everyday basically trying to whip up a Crusade. They have been raging away about how persecuted Christians are and slamming any group they feel has slighted Christians and are thwarting them from ordering society as they would like it to be. It is pretty disgusting and the fact that we have NO ONE stepping forward to call these religious bigots on their crap is unreal. Falwell and Roberston are everywhere these days, too. Sometimes I fear that until a mob of these self-styled holy and righteous people set loose in a riot and start maiming and killing in God's name on the streets of a city here, they will be allowed to thrive because we just make the assumption that generally everyone sees them as extreme too.

Right Wing and the Christian Fundamentalists thinking they will be more supportive of Israel in its problems with the Arabs. That may be true to a certain extent but as this post reveals, our friends in the Jewish community would be well advised to keep a close eye on these religious nuts who have a centuries long hatred brewing for the Jewish people. As they say, keep your friends close but your enemies closer.

Apparently someone from "The Catholic League" was among the gang. Doesn't he know that the Christian Reconstructionists (who are behind the Christian Right's grab for political power) hate Catholics almost as much as Jews? Of course, they also hate most mainline Protestant churches as well; Billy Graham is regarded as dangerously ecumenical.
There's some truth one of his statements. The film industry in this country was largely founded by Jews because anti-Semitism kept them from many professions & businesses. So they took a new technology & made it a success. Many with power in the industry are still Jewish, but they probably wanted to keep a distance from Mel Gibson's project because he's scary; I agree.

|
He has a history of spouting "Hitler wasn't that bad," bullshit. The man has a long history of anti-semitism, although most of his fellow "journalists" have defended him as "he's really a nice guy once you get to know him." Yeah. And as Mel Brooks said, "Hitler was a better dancer than Churchill."
The rumor is that when Buchanan tried his run for president, he low-keyed his anti-semitism by cutting down on his invitation list to celebrate Hitler's birthday.
