Hey Californian DUer's! What are your thoughts about Bill Lockyer?
Edited on Thu Dec-09-04 01:25 AM by NNguyenMD
I'm a current resident of Upstate New York, but also grew up in California all my life. I left just a few months after Bill Lockyer got elected California AG, and I here that there's talk about him being the front-runner candidate on the Democratic ticket for Governor in 2006. What do you guys think about his record? Is he a West Coast Spitzer? Think he'll be able to beat back meathead Governor "Ah-nuld"?

And if you guys aren't easy about the idea of him being on the democratic ticket, which California politician would you prefer to run for governor instead?

1. He'll get spanked

He is a terrible campaigner. I'd rather have Martin Sheen.

CORPORATE AMERICA controls the media and we get MANUFACTURED NEWS.
CORPORATE AMERICA now controls the voting machines and we get MANUFACTURED ELECTIONS.

3. The word is that he's running
and Ahhnold is not. He's no Spitzer; being very much a political animal, but I think he would make a great gov..

4. He'll be crushed by Arnold.
They'll just paint Lockyer as a part of the Davis machine, which he is.

5. Lockyer predates Davis, I believe.
I worked in the legislature in Sacramento around 1979-81. Lockyer was in the legislature back then, if memory serves me correctly, while Davis was merely a staffer for Governor Jerry Brown.

6. I like him fine.
He's no Spitzer.
He would not be my pick to beat Ahnuld.
Arnold needs to be beaten with a stick, and Lockyer is too staid.
The local press has taken out after Lockyer a time or two, but
not with much apparent effect.

7. Unfortunately, the only way musclehead can lose in CA

is if some Democrat Hollywood action hero runs against him...Hmmm...George Clonney?

This is sad but very true...AND it goes for the country as well...if the republicans get the alien amendment added to the Consitution...the Nazi Arnold will be a two-term republican president as well.

Both democrats & republicans know this...People are so fucking star struck...they actually believed Jed, Ellie, Granny & Jethro lived in that mansion in Beverly Hills.

I've lived in Northern CA my whole life...you strike me as a S CA guy...I liked upstate NY, very nice and a pretty area...however I found Cooperstown a bit too perfect "Americana" ---except for this great bar in town--on the side street...that place was fun!!!

9. thanks for the kind words, and you're right I'm a SoCal native all the way
Upstate NY has been great, thought definitely a new environment from where I grew up but I don't mean that in a bad way. This place has a lot to offer and isn't a bad place to live.

I'm a Californian 'til the day I die though, but I'd like to spend the remaining years of my education and training living in different places while I'm young and have the chance.

I'll still be in NY through the 2006 election, and I'm hyped up about Eliot Spitzer kicking Pataki's ass. California is the golden jewel of the Democratic party, and you guys deserve the best candidate the party has to offer, I hope you guys get it.

Thanks for your comments!

8. I don't like Lockyer...at all
First, he voted for Arnold.

Second, he has some sexual harassment stories in his past. I think they will come out in a campaign.

Third, the guy is a long time political player. I'm not sure where his core values are and I'm not sure he has them.

I'm supporting Angelides. I met him about the same time I first met Lockyer. Both were aspiring politicians. Angelides treated his staff and interns well and had strong values. Lockyer did not. That was more than 20 years ago. I think you can assess character better when they are not well known and neither one was at the time.
