Bush wants to ban gay writers from being read in school, no Streetcar?
Tennessee Williams is one of the most celebrated playwrites in history.

His play A Streetcar Named Desire is one of the most performed high school plays. It is also one of the most performed plays of the last 100 years.

Will the madness of King George ever end?

14. King James had a few favorites.
There isn't much good proof.

Hated witches though. And filthy tobacco.

Of course, he merely commissioned the translation. He didn't work on it.

"Dig a hole," Gerald Allen recommends, "and dump them in it."

Of course, Allen was talking about books. He was just talking about books. He never said anything about pink triangles.

19. no Cole Porter, Jerry Herman, Steven Sondheim
Lorenz Hart, the list is endless...

don't have the link but here's part of one article:

MONTGOMERY - An Alabama lawmaker who sought to ban gay marriages now wants to ban novels with gay characters from public libraries, including university libraries.

A bill by Rep. Gerald Allen, R-Cottondale, would prohibit the use of public funds for "the purchase of textbooks or library materials that recognize or promote homosexuality as an acceptable lifestyle." Allen said he filed the bill to protect children from the "homosexual agenda."

at The Kennedy Center last week all the more hypocritical. I kept waiting for someone to jump on that one - gay-hating Shrub honoring gay Elton John - but no one did. Guess they were all too busy admiring Pickles' and Condis' gowns. :eyes:

22. Bush likes gay campaign managers, press sec., and field directors for HIM.
Bush is using all the peripheral antigay issues to make the right think he is as antigay as they are. He's lucky because the press won't bring up the fact that Bush is actually FOR gay civil unions with all its legal protections, so the right wingnuts don't have to face the rank manipulations of their worldview for Bush's political gains.

I think it is gay "material" not gay authors that they are trying to ban. Although I wouldn't put that past them;)

27. It's impossible to extricate gayness from literature
Now don't get me wrong. I'm not trying to force the Nick Adams Stories down anybody's throat, but if we set out to undertand the origins and meanings of butchness in Hemmingway's writings, sooner or later we're going find ourselves kicking back in a Parisian salon with bonafide gays and lesbians, reading and discussing gay literature. Isolating hetero works from gay works is as foolish an undertaking as redacting all the gay parts from Leaves of Grass or, in the example cited in the Guardian, As You Like It.

30. Just a thought.
What's next? No gay actors? Hell that would shut down the entertainment industry (including Broadway) for good. The right would be thrilled . Maybe that's the administration ultimate goal. OH god I just saw a promo of Scarborough Country with Ann Coulter. I admit it I'm watching MSNBC. Excuse me but I have to :puke:
