Atlanta: Air America is alive and well, to the surprise of naysayers
Neal Boortz was ragging on the rookie of talk radio. His crystal ball foresaw a smoggy future for Air America, the start-up national network that had appeared out of left field to inject a distinct tone into the chorus of chatmeisters with conservative and libertarian accents.

"This is not something I would invest in," the decidedly unliberal Boortz of Atlanta's WSB-AM (750) said dismissively on his nationally syndicated show earlier this year.

In the coming days, Jon Sinton, the Atlanta radio consultant who midwifed Air America, expects to announce:

> The 8 1/2-month-old network, already in 40 markets including Atlanta, will expand to at least four more, covering about half of the country;

> Al Franken and Janeane Garofalo, its most recognized on-air hosts, will re-up, dousing speculation that they would bolt when one-year commitments expire;

> Investors have sunk enough new money in Air America to see it through to profitability.

"What an incredible accomplishment ... in opening the industry's eyes," says Michael Harrison, editor of the trade magazine Talkers.

"It's clear that the public is aware there is an Air America."

1. Boortz was not predicting as he would want his listeners to believe....

He was wishing it would fail.....That was a Boortz :Hail Mary" prayer. Now, with AA's success, he may need to actucally be accurate on occasion in his rhetoric spew.

Can you imagine, Boortz being held accountable?????????? :bounce:

Oh, he reads DU too. Now he has 2 sources to find the truth....

5. Neal Boortz is a menace
I swear, we were surround here by hate radio.

I mean SURROUNDED.

Boortz, Hannity, Limbaugh, O'Reilly, Liddy.

Then they took my favorite 80's station and made that all talk, featuring an up and coming right wing shill asshole named Schnitt.

Thank God for Air America.

2. The election was the best thing to happen to Air America
Bill Clinton was the best thing that ever happened to the Pigman. He was big before Clinton's presidency, but after the 1992 election Limbaugh became the undisputed champion of talk radio and was even treated as a mainstream political figure for several years.

With Democrats out of power everywhere, Air America will be the place where liberals and Democrats turn to hear voices of sanity.

Now if AA could only get some affilliates in Texas.

4. Texas
Just stated on another thread how I'd love to see AAR in Houston. We really need a counter to all the conservative stations. Texans really need to start listening to Democrats. I moved here from the northeast. I'm in my late 50's, retired, great medical benefits. That wouldn't be true if I lived in Texas. ( I'm a retired educator ) Texans are more oppressed than they know.

6. 1090AM, the local affiliate that airs AA, has a tag line:
"Seattle, we no longer have a problem."

That would sound really good modified for Houston.

8. This is, for me, the best news.
Having a media outlet inside the washington bubble giving a fact based analysis is a big victory.

7. Franken signed a new contract, as did Randi Rhodes
http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml?type=entertainmentNews&storyID=7034913

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Liberal radio network Air America on Wednesday said it had extended a contract with comedian and commentator Al Franken and received an extra $13 million in funding to continue its national roll-out.

The network debuted in March with commentators seen as a liberal response to conservatives like Rush Limbaugh.

Air America Radio has options to keep Franken on through 2007 and also signed a new deal with commentator Randi Rhodes, new Chairman Rob Glaser told Reuters.

Air America has deals in 11 of the top 20 radio markets, with broadcasts in 40 markets nationwide and on satellite radio and the Internet at www.airamericaradio.com
