I thought US vets got a pension when they came home from fighting, or am I just a naive/ignorant Canuck???

2. I'd say naive. Nuthin personal.
Maybe its cause you're a canuck, but you can't exit a freeway in a major city without seeing homeless vets panhandling on the corner.

3. Pension
Nineteen years six months active duty for a retirement. Service- connected disabilities are compensated if one can prove 'service- connected'. Otherwise forget it.

But at one time in some cases an income supplement can be granted to a low income war time vet.
