I have a question -- tax deductible donations |
|
While reading another thread here, I found a link to an anti-American site which professed to be a pro-Christian/pro-family site. While reading the filth contained there, I found the following information:
"Because time was short, the 21,000 letters had to be sent First Class and the entire mailing cost us $14,000, which we did not have. Please fill out the form below and send a TAX DEDUCTIBLE donation to pay for the mailing and help us get ready to do similar mailings in the future. Praise God for the passing of SB 245 and look for it on your ballot in November. Thanks a lot!"
In short, there was a piece of legislation (regarding same sex marriage) before this state's legislature. It has been passed by the Senate (republican majority), but was being re-written in the House (democrat majority). The letters were sent to constituents of the House members opposing the bill in its original form.
Now... this organization is a religious one. From what I've been able to gleen, their tax-exempt status is based on their religious affliations. How exactly does this -- a mass mailing of legislator's constituents -- fall into the realm of religious activities?
Finally, what would it take for us to develop some non-profit, religious watchdogs of our own? What's good for the goose is definitely good for the gander.

1. Actually, I don't think that is legal |
|
and they just put their status at risk. I think they could be turned in for that.
I'm sure others will chime in with more info.
